Exhaust note " NOISE!"

Ok guys and girls its time to play " whats that noise?! "

K, when my GTS hits 2500rpm i get a really horrible noise coming from the exhaust which lasts to about 3000rpm.

Its like a vibrating note and sounds like shit.

Just wondering if its my Catalytic Converter, Muffler, Natural resonance or me???

hmm... i get a similar noise but i thought that it was my pod. it could be resonance in the exhaust manifold - when i got extractors the noise got louder for me.

so basically i have no idea sorry

assuming you have a stock exhaust, One with the twin head on it???

Have a look down the righthand side and you should see a flap over the hole, blocking it..

I believe the cable you can see in the next photo opens the hole when the pressure builds up or the car reaches a certain rpm!! This could be the cause of your noise! I find mine gets louder around the same time!

There is a cable on the upper right hand side that opens this flap!

Maybe you could try to jam it open or remove it and see if that makes a difference?

its adjustable you can tighten / loosen the cable.

Surely they wouldnt have released the car with such a terrible exhaust note?!?!

its adjustable, for the sake of reducing exhaust noise to desired levels.

perhaps that was the noise that they were trying to reduce? My exhaust never made any of those noises at all.

my car makes it even with aftermarket exhaust, my dads M3 makes it, dad says its the cams, when they really start working! like a vibrating rattling noise, its not a problem thats for sure, i reckon it sounds good

I know what you mean, its like a flapping, cracking noise from about 2500-3000, i think its a N/A thing, i got a barrel muffler put on and it just mad it louder sounds kinda cool like you got some funky mods or something, after a while when the engine heats up after 10mins or so it seems to die down a little bit. I can never work out what the noise is, i heard the cams do it aswell.........

Cat doesnt help, just fitted a new 2.5" hi flow and there's no different to it on my car, pretty much same noise, just louder now

Has anybody replaced the exhaust at all?

I.E cat back or full system?

Did it get rid of that noise?

ive replaced from the cat back and i too get the noise... but it does die off when the car warms up.......

i first fitted a cat back, that maybe quitened the noise a little or maybe just drowned it out a little. i then fitted extractors and a hi-flow cat and the noise perhaps got a little noisier. basically changing the exhaust doesn't get rid of the sound
