hi i was changing my spark plugs in my R32 GTR one was to tight, once i got it undone i small piece broke off and fell in the little hole. i tried to get it out with a vacuum i think i did but what is the worst that can happen ?? any help?? might happen to others ?

Cheers NightRider

get one of those magnets, i got one that extends in a screw driver set, very handy when you drop screws

I don't think that would work with ceramic. Still they are handy little things.

you'd best get it out... you could try winding the engine over with out the plugs and see if it flies out... wear safety glasses though.. chances are it will break into more tiny pieces and just remove itself... but it could also damage a valve or embed itself in the piston... bit extreme but it would be sad to pull it down because of a tiny piece of ceramic.

i had a piece of aluminium from the throttle slide go through my wr400.. it was a substantial chunk, no dramas, it just squashed up with the heat and compression and spat it out the exhaust..

the worst that could happen? new engine. piece breaks up, damages piston, things start falling apart, catastrophic engine failure. the best that can happen? nothing at all, it gets blown out the exhaust and somehow doesn't damage your turbo.

my advice would be try as hard as you can to get it out before starting this engine. you do not want it bashing your piston to pieces. a dropped piece of plug (usually tip) or dropped valve head is a very common cause of engine failure. and it can be very final.

to get it out, try getting the piston to tdc with the plug out and get a piece of insulated wire or blow compressed air in small bursts in there to get the piece to where you can see it

when you can get some stiff wire and wack a dop of grease on it

slide it in till you contact the ceramic piece - it will (if not too big) stick to the grease and bobs your uncle out it comes

same thing happened to me on an l20B - different motor but same principle applies

it was just after a rebuild to so the last thing i wanted to do was take the head off again or risk smashing up the piston or valve seats

just takes plenty of patients and you will get a sore back, swearing really loudly helps alot.

or you can do it the easy way a piece of garden hose or hose small enough to fit through spark plug hole on the end of a vacuum cleaner (taped on so it sucks) and an empty vac bag get the piston half way then vacuum it out just check the bag after cause it was a new bag or even better a bagless vacuum cleaner you will know when ya have it.
