Hi all,

I've read that you can fit series 5 RX7 injectors into an RB20 without too much problems, but I'm just wondering about the ins and outs of doing so. They are a high impedance injector, so it shouldn't require any ballast resistors, and they are a Top Feed, so no fuel rail mods (from what I can gather)

Has anyone done this mod and know any tricks/problems?

Thanks for the reply Adriano.

I was specifically wondering about the electrical side of things. What type connectors do the RB20's have (oval, square, custom)? I don't have an RB20 so I can't check.

I just want to know what is involved in fitting them, as I don't want to tell some poor sod that they'll fit straight in when there could be a lot of fiddling around involved. You do that, and it'll come back on you eventually...

Need generic injector connectors, rb20 connectors dont fit on gtr injectors unless you cut some of the notches off the injectors.

Have to wire in GTR resistor ballast, refer to the link below for my explanation.

I'm not worried about GTR injectors (I already have a GTR).. As the title says, its 550cc RX7 injectors into an RB20 that I'm worried about.

Steve,

rx7 550's are a direct drop in replacement for stock RB20 injectors. If there going to the trouble of putting them in i would be replacing the plugs anyway for peace of mind given there age. Other than that nothing else is required.

As for spray pattern, i never had any drama's when running mine :)

Yes they are all high impedance Hitachi injectors. Mazda changed the injector plugs to an oval style plug for the S5 rx-7. The S4 rx7 injectors should be a straight drop in.

Be aware that the NA and Turbo injectors are similar in colouring. N/A is 460cc turbo is 550cc.

N/A part number: 195500-2020 (Purple/Red top)

Turbo part number: 195500-2010 (Red top)

If you end up getting S5 550's then you can get the oval style plugs of most toyota camry's, I got a set of a V6 2001 model camry that looked almost new. Be aware but that the spray pattern is like a garden hose, and for this reason I would not recommend them. Been there done that.

Personally I would be to go for Sard's or Nismo even if it does take a little longer to save for them.

Thanks peoples. As I said, I have a GTR, so they're no good for me. I just don't want to rip someone off like I was.

Btw James, I think you have the part numbers the wrong way around. Every rx7 forum I've been on has the 2020's as the 550cc turbo injectors.

Femno's got it in one...

I was ripped off as the person who sold these to me said they were a straight swap in for a GTR.... Now I have to find some way to recoup some my losses ie. sell them, without doing the same thing to someone else.

Ideally, I'd just like to give them back to the dude that sold me them and get my money back, but that's as likely as a hole in the head. So if anyone knows of any drag/drift cops with RB20's that want bigger injectors....

Don't worry all.. they do fit my RB26 after all, albeit with some modification to the loom...

Looks like I'll have to scour the wreckers or something...

Note to self: Check part numbers etc before buying..

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
