After my nasty accident, the question has been raised about getting parts for my 260.

Does anyone know what the differences are in the front end between a S1 RS4 and a S1 260RS?:

Anyone with access to FAST would be my best friend right now

So far the obvious ones are:

Holes and brackets in the chassis for the front mount intercooler.

different front bar, and grille.

are the headlights different? I don't remember seeing a RS4 with black surrounds behind the lenses.

are the front indicators different?

are there much piping differences?

any help greatly appreciated

There were quite a few differences we found. All the holes as you mentioned, the front chassis rails were chopped for the bov return, the actual rad support seemed different (allthough we went from S2-S1), no idea on lights sorry.

The holes to mount alot of things were actually there, like the mounts for the bottom of the intercooler etc, was suprising.

Did you have a front end crash? And looking to replace the front part with a RS4 part from a 1/2 cut or something?

yeah he did neil some one did a RH turn infront of him click his username and find threads he's started... got pics and all, doesnt look good :)

yeh mate, im trying to help out the crash repairer in knowing what parts will be needed for the repair work. From what I've seen and what I have been told, it will need all the chassis from the strut towers forward. I'm assuming that a RS4 front cut will be ok, providing that all the correct holes are drilled and all the mounts are made for all the RB26 related gear. - All type crash built thier own custom Drift cars, so this shouldnt be too hard for them.

Ouch man just seen the photo's... Wow

Yeah it wouldnt be to hard for a good panel beater, its just all the fidly bits that will take up the time, i know of a S1 260RS frontcut here in WA, might be of some use?

Best of luck with it man, hope it all works out for you, the car was looking sweet.

Neil, I have just sent you a PM.

If you're after quality Nissan parts-interpretation, speak to the Spare Parts Manager @ Grand Nissan - Terry Russell. I've been dealing with Terry for 15 years for all my genuine parts needs for every Nissan I've ever owned.

Tell them that if its written off you want to buy the wreck - they may offer it to you first before putting it up for auction. I bought my write off for $1200 that way.

for sure man. Just sent you a PM

did u get my PM with the contact details for the front cut?

yeh i did cheers, but the guy isn't replying very promptly via email.

I managed to get a contact number but he doesn't answer his phone.

Aaah crap sorry man.

no luck on the half cut, its got too much missing, and communication is an issue.

guess i just sit tight and wait for the quotes to be tallied. Apparently the hold up is waiting for japan to reply with pricing....

having trouble sleeping, cos i dont know if it will be written off or not...

I did an RB26 then a Masa 34 conversion on an RS4. I found everything was fine to swap all to 26 stuff. Logically I had tt cut the hole on the drivers side under the battery and the mounts for the BOV pipe, but everything else was fine. The FMIC lower brackets go straight into the rail as they should etc. All the radiator supports etc are all the same, even from series 1 to 2. Series 2 is just an S1 with different guards, bonnet, lights and grille.

    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
