don't be redocolus.

actually the 5 minute between PM's are only if you're an unverified member of the forums (ie, aren't a donator, a member of a club, a trader etc). This is to stop spam bots from signing up and then hammering the forums with spam PMs.

I might actually amend it so that it allows unlimited PM's if your post count is more than 500. I'd say if you've made 500 posts then you're here to stay :P

I say leave it. Donation privledge :)

Might make people realise this site does not run itself.

Furthermore to claim something is ridiculous when they have made plenty of sales through the forum, probably attained heaps of advice thats also saved money, and would not have made such sales without the forum as well... yet cant find $5 to donate?

THAT is ridiculous

yes that would be a good idea .

so i have to donate to use private messages whenever i want to ?? i dont mind at all but geee

yeh imho it sounds a bit like blackmail.

its a key feature on every single forum in the world. and having to pay for it is bs. i understand special features such as hosting images, stickers and extra storage is a special feature, but come on.

even 500 is a bit high, not all of us use the forums every second of the day.

i find it a bit hard to believe for example someone like myself who hasnt got 500 posts, isnt a "trusted" user.

you guys should run some sort of eligibility test if the spam is that bad. that way regular forum members can apply for exemption from this idiotic rule.

^agree

yeah i was going to say it was something like blackmail...but i guess every website has to make money somehow and this is it. but paying to just msg other people is going way too far or desperate.

lol @ blackmail.

No surprise its coming from someone thats selling goods and given nothing once again... so ironic

Unless they are trying to pedal more than the odd item (which they all are, hence complaints) then it really isn't an item.

its not really that big of a prob but its fairly annoying. what if it was a donating member trying to respond to many requests for a sale item via pm? he/she would have to wait 5mins in between each msg instead of just doing it.

if you must do it then i reckon 1-2mins is heaps.

donating members, club member, paid traders, etc don't have ANY time restrictions on their PMing. They can PM as much as they want, as frequently as they want.

regular members can PM too, just one PM (with I think up to 50 members cc'd) every fine mins.

now this usually isn't a problem if you're fairly involved with SAU, the problem arises only if you come on SAU purely to sell stuff. If you have less thant 10 posts you don't get to PM... and honestly if you can't be arsed making 10 meaningful posts on SAU then I don't see why we have to go out of our way to make sure your browsing experience is all rainbows and butterflies..

honestly we just don't have the time to verify people or rely on "are you human" tests, cos eventually they'll be circumvented. this is the best way of keeping it in check. The postcount of 500 was an idea I've been tossing up, because if we set it to a post count under a 100 you'll just get people spamming the forums to get their postcount up. You've gotta be real dedicated to make 500 posts, and kinda what we're looking for if youwanna enjoy an unrestricted PMing experience. Plus its not like we're stopping you from browsing the forum or anything, its just limiting the PMs.

These measures weren't implemented to make money or raise revenue. Its to encourage people to get more active in SAU, join the local club etc, while at the same time weeding out spammers.

^ Yup. Only Mod/Admin can CC due to the abuse that was going on (far as i remember)

Just to add..

Another key reason also that might have gone by without much notice

I've barely had a dodgy trader complaint since these were implemented. (and the post editing restricted)

Considering on average i was looking into one claim every 2 weeks which was a hell of a lot realistically.

And then to have only had to deal with two complaints/dodgy traders in the last 3 months which from an Admin point of view is an absolute godsend and is letting me focus on small things here and there to actually make the forum better :D

I think everyone across the forum would unanimously agree that less dodgy traders and sales attempts is probably one of the best benefits of all

Is it maybe worth enforcing that more info has to be lodged when signing up, dont know how good the bots are but it you force people to choose a state (and not have a default one) and a type of car they have that should atleast get rid of bots shouldnt it?

Also some forums i am signed up to dont allow you to post in the for sale section untill you have some many posts and signed up for a certain length of time, stops people from signing up to post a link to there ebay auction like this guy http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Cl...-L-t272842.html

    • LOL.... a good amount of people (not all) on that continent seem to know everything and like to measure things in bananas, football fields, statue of liberties instead of the metric system lol.
    • I assume the modules are similar enough, so if you've had no issues I don't see why I would. I have tried to find a wiring diagram for the FPCM / fuel pump circuit, but I can't find it anywhere. Otherwise, I would just do some wire cutting and joining at the FPCM and give the 12 V supplied to the FPCM directly to the pump instead. If you know anyone that could help with wiring diagrams, I'd be very happy
    • If it dies, then bypass. The task isn't difficult. I have one running on a standard R32 FPCM. That's after nearly 20 years of it running an 040, which pull substantially more current than the Walbro. They're not the same module, but I'd hope it indicates that the R33 one should be man enough for the job. I think people kill them when putting proper sized pumps on them, not these little toy pumps we're talking about here.
    • Silicone spray won't hurt anything. And if it does, that's an opportunity to put some solid steel spherical bushings in, so you can really learn what suspension noise sounds like, If you're going to try it, just spray one bush at a time, so you can work out which one is actually noisy. My best guess is that if the noise started only since putting the coilovers in, then it is just noise being transmitted up through the top mounts of the struts, and not necessarily "new" noise from bushes. But it's almost impossible to know.
    • Are you saying the 34 is SUV height, and not that we're talking about an SUV here? (because if we're talking about an SUV, you don't fix them. You just replace them when something breaks. Not worth establishing sufficient emotional connection with an SUV to warrant doing any work on one). I wouldn't jack my car up on a short little loop of 10mm steel rod poking out through a hole in the bumper bar, front or rear end. I realise that we're probably not talking about that type of loop at the front, being the one under/behind the bar on a Skyline.... but even for that one, trying to jack up on what amounts to a thin piece of steel, designed purely for withstanding a horizontal tension force, not a vertical compressive force (and so would be prone to buckling/crushing) and, my most particular bitch about it - located RIGHT AT THE EXTREME FRONT OF THE CAR, applying a load up through the radiator support panel, etc, with almost the entire mass of the car cantilevered between there and the rear wheels? Nope. Not doing that. Not on the regular. That structure out there in front of the front crossmember is not designed to carry load in the vertical direction. Not really designed to carry any load at all, really. The chassis rail that the tow point is connected to would be fine loaded in tension, as per towing. Not intended to carry the mass of the whole car, especially loaded all on one rail, with twisting and all sorts of shitty load distribution going on. No, I will happily drive up on some pieces of wood, thanks. That can only happen on driven wheels, and they are at the other end of the car, and this problem does not exist at that end of the car. And even then, I have been known to drive up on at least 1x piece of 2x8 each side at the rear, simply to reduce the amount of jack pumping necessary to get the car up high enough for the jack stands. What really really shits me about Skylines is the lack of decent places for chassis stands at either end of the car. You'd think they'd be designed into the crossmembers.
