hey guys

i got an r33 gtst manual with the usual bolt ons

healthy stock rb25det,

3.5 inch turbo back stainless

front mount cooler and water spray

12 psi

4.363 diff gears

i've got a budget of around 1600, looking for a replacement turbo

one option that ive considered is a hypergear high flow

do highflowed stock turbo's make a big difference over the standard t3?

much gain?

normally the rb25 turbo's are limited by the ceramic compressor wheel, so you can;t boost it over 12-14 safely

if i got a high flow, due to it having a steel wheel would i be able to wind it higher than the standard t3?

supporting mods?

i think the efficiency of the turbo peaks out at 18-20 psi

$1600 could get you a remapped ecu, a high flow fuel pump, high flowed injectors and a Z32 afm.

Hypergear do T3 highflows for $800

high flowed turbo will be good for around 260kw atw's

and yes you can run more pressure than the standard spec turbo

I had a high flow on an RB25/30 and it maxed out on 17psi.

Pushed out 284 rwkw ,974 Nm of torque and full boost at 2800 rpm.

Brutal instant power, nasty wheel spin in 1st and 2nd.

Don't know who flowed it though as I bought the car with it already on. Got 60,000 km's out of it.

Before I did my engine rebuild my RB25 was stock , all but FMIC, Haltech ECU , 500 hp fuel pump and the high flow.

It had 247 fwkw or 190rwkw.

Gotrice is bang on with what's needed though my injectors were stock, but my fuel pressure was high (70 psi ) flat out.

For R33 Turbos I actual recommend use our TR43G2 or TR43i for just $200 extra. your stock R33 worth about $300 once its sold. So you only end up paying about $150 more on a custom dump pipe.

even with a high flowed stock turbo a tune would be necessary?

shouldn't the afm compensate for this? it wouldn't be a huge jump up from the stock turbo

i wouldn't mind going to another turbo

just that the convenience of having everything bolt back up no fabrication needed is there if i get it high flowed

Pretty sure the car would run on a highflowed turbo but it wouldn't be running very happily. You would need at least a piggy back unit like a Safc to try alter the fuel map to correct for the extra airflow. Even just a highflow is going to be freaking out a stock ECU quite a bit.

when my car was untuned with basic mods like fmic full exhaust etc... i had mine running 12pounds.. with a hypergear highflow... it was running madd!

Now my car tuned with injectors and z32 and pfc... im doing about 240kws..

hmm.. sorry to hijack but has anyone looked into the kkr480? its roughly the same price as a high flow and is a straight swap....

I Had one while back. Definitely not a straight swap mate. Water fittings are different, Dump pipe needs to be custom made, intake pipe is different, I had a boost spike issue after installation. It must be externally gated. Performance wise its not bad.

While I have had no personal experience with KKR turbo's, I would advise against them. If your chasing mild gains a High flow would suit you fine. If you are the sort of person who 6 months down to track is going to want more, then invest your money in some decent supporting mods, then just wait till you have the money and chuck a proper turbo on there. Going cheap now might cost you more in the future if you decide you want more power down the track.

Can run stock ecu on hiflowed turbo's.. however dont be compelled to wind up the wick.. as your compressor would be at least 10mm bigger then the stocker.. which would flow craploads more air.

I myself run a bush bearing hiflow with an rx7 core/exhaust setup and only run 5-6psi. Laggy, but way more hit then my stocker @ 9psi.

Hey there, Yeh you can run your highflow turbo with your stock ecu but beware.... once your boost goes past 12psi..... you will hit R&R and therefore you will require your spark plugs to be gapped at 0.8mm and will start miss firing past 3-4rpm.... it will miss..

    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks  
    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
