gazza750
take it with you as a personal import Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274539-migrating-to-usa/#findComment-4654214 Share on other sites
funkymonkey
either that or pick yourself up a nice cheap G35. Car prices in the US are stupid low compared to australia... taking a skyline there is kinda pointless. enjoy cheap euro's and american muscle while you're there. if you really need a jap fix, you could always pick up a banger 240sx (S13 or S14) for under a couple of grand and drop an SR20 into em (they come with KA's)... actually you could probably find a few that have the conversion already done by kids there. Or get a supra... but then you'd be hardgay. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274539-migrating-to-usa/#findComment-4654239 Share on other sites

funkymonkey
you're allowed to import a car into the US for private use for a year or something like that after which it has to be re-exported or taken back with you. you can keep it RHD etc. most R32's in the US are dodgy imports, and they're legal in one state only, but not federally. few guys run the risks and import em, but if I were you I'd stay clear of skylines in the US. Jonno34
hey mate the U.S is left hand drive, and they drive opposite to us, (on the right hand side of the road = slow lane) i went there recently, it was really confusing, almost turned into the wrong lane, but a whole bunch of drivers horned me and i woke up to what country i was in! i think most skylines are not legal in the U.S and you gotta pay a heap to make it road worthy there. the only way i know off is to bring in the shell of the car, then stick in the parts when it arrives the company KAIZO brought in the skyline r34 shells for the latest fast furious 4 check it out, but itll still cost alot to bring in a shell and fill it with the parts you need etc but really, if your gonna go to the U.S the cars there are so much cheaper, like somebody said above, enjoy the luxury cars, euro cars, muscle cars i saw some nice BMWs etc over there for a good price on the internet, dodge chargers and similar cars. when i went to Los Angeles/Frisco/Vegas the most popular cars i saw were corvettes and mustangs if that helps you in any way. i would think the labour costs involved in modding a car would be cheaper there too, definitely cheaper than what it is in perth. good luck, enjoy the states! funkymonkey
best thing about living in the US for more than a year is if you own that car for a year you can bring it here as a private import. maybe look into getting a new corvette, mustang or camaro or something. -Dukes-
According to 2 fast 2 furious, you can go to any used car yard and buy a smashed up R34, and race people all around the country and slowly do it up yourself whilst running from police. Jonno34
importing a car from US would be left hand drive though mate, but i have seen a couple of left hand drive cars in perth, they have stickers on em to let other drivers know they are left hand drive lol. bubba
From January 2003 new provisions have taken effect relating to Left Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles in WA.If you are a resident of Australia and you import a LHD vehicle, you may need to convert the vehicle to RHD before it can be registered if your LHD vehicle was manufactured up to 15 years ago. However if your left hand drive (LHD) vehicle is less than 4.5 tonne, and was manufactured more than 15 years ago, it may be possible to register it without the need for a right hand drive conversion. It must however be intended for personal use only. http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourvehicle/1384.asp Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274539-migrating-to-usa/#findComment-4656612 Share on other sites
