Noisy Coilovers

Recommended Posts

Does anyone with coilovers have a slight metallic knocking sound when negotiating bumps in the road etc?

Also in need of Upper control arm suspension bushes. Anyone know who sells them ( anywhere except whiteline) ?

Yepp, my right rear pillow ball mount (sits on top of the strut) does what your are describing.

Apparently it's very common. Mine has been like that since I got the car and hasn't got any worse.

Thanks for the Re-assurance Jay...its a small price 2 pay for the handling improvement coilovers give.

R U planning to go to the future Canberra/ Sydney joint cruise?

Looking forward 2 meeting up with U and the canberra crew :)

Yeah I know what you mean. I was crapping myself thinking that the wheel would come off and I'd see it overtake me one day

But after talking to a few people they said it's common.

I'll try my best to be there for the cruise. Would be cool to catch up with everyone.

Guest MisterT

doesnt whiteline make a coil wrap that silences them? i know they sell them here in the US. it looks sort of like wire loom and is really really thick and wraps around coils, sort of dampens the noise i guess.

Guest adam

yeh i get this too

i find if you re-set the mounting on the rubber-thing at the top of the spring it quietens it slightly

ive also found that alot of the noise is through vibrating ect in the boot cos the suspension is so hard. if you have damper adjustment make the shocks softer and also go through your boot and make sure everything is secure ie jack, spare wheel and the fake-wall panels surrounding the boot

If you really don't want bushes from Whiteline (and why wouldn't you?), SuperPro have a range of polyurethane bushes for Skylines, and most other cars too.
