Hi,

Having a few issues with my 1993 GTR32. The engine is fine and runs well but every now and then (mainly on the last cruise) acts weird and stuttery. Tonight on the way home from a booty call I heard what sounded like popping or bubbling from the engine. I mean you could hear it over the engine. I was thinking that it was the radiator but the temp was fine so drove home sedately.

Lifted the bonnet with the engine running and could clearly hear this popping/bubbling sound but it was coming from the fuel rail near No1 and No2 injectors. Pulled the Injector harness off each one and car slows idle but popping noise doesn't go away. I thought that if it was one of these injectors "missing" that it would go away. Too hard late at night to keep going at the rest of the injectors but I am very concerned that one is on the way out.

Car has been running fine and will even get up on the boost but has been stuttering every now and then and the boys on the cruise say that I was shooting flames when pushing it. I thought it was the Apexi PowerFC that had dropped the tune but maybe it is this popping fuel rail sound causing the stuttering. Fuel economy is about normal still and maybe its time for new fuel filter and sparks.

Anyway if anyone has any ideas, I am very handy with a spanner, so throw them out there and I will try to diagnose the issue when I have some more time tomorrow.

Thanks

Bart

the bubbling and popping noise is more often air bubbles in the coolant rail that runs along next to the fuel rail. it's most likely air in your cooling system, pocket of coolant are boiling because of it, hence the bubbling noises.

bleed the head via the bleed screw and see if that helps.

    • And I just realised that that advice is slightly nonsensical for a GTR, because you need 2 of them. But it is otherwise true.
    • Having had a reasonable look at the car, I'll be able to remove the (one time) rams and retract the hinge (they are held in the down location by a tiny (m3?) sacrificial screw) which will get it physically back in shape. From there if you remove the rams you need a resistor to turn off the airbag light (as Mark said, there are plug in kits and I might go that way because its reversible). And...per all the threads on here, even if you have the resistors to turn off the airbag light, the bonnet light will stay on as it writes to the airbag computer history - that is either replace the airbag controller, reprogam the EPROM (if I can work out how), or remove the globe from the dash. Having seen how sensitive this system is, if I had my time over I'd pre-emptively remove the rams, even on a road car, because this is all a very unnecessary pain in the arse. Reminds me, time to go and have a look at the Fuga too....
