hi guys,

ive had to cut the underside bracing on my factory gtr bonnet to accomodate for my new rb26/30, it just fits luckily enough :(

im thinking about getting an aftermarket carbon bonnet which has more clearance or those large vents to allow a better fit...does anyone have experience with a particular aftermarket bonnet which gives good clearance for the extra 38mm?

i was also thinking of spacing the rear of the bonnet which would help with engine bay heat but i dont really like that look (reminds me of the A9X Torana from the 80's)

thanks,

marko

i was told not to slot the engine mounts as well, geometry of cv's etc will be out!

what is touching is the intake hard pipe which has the 'twin turbo' badge on it above the low mount turbo's - i might just need to take off the twin turbo badge & ground off the boss it sits on...i was hoping a carbon bonnet would give better clearance but i think i better stick with the factory bonnet

^ this is true ^ another reason not to touch the mounts

im thinking maybe i get a small custom bulge to give it more room, any recommendations or is this a dumb idea being an alloy bonnet?

how about a sleek bonnet scoop - do these exist for the r32gtr?

Hey Marko, this is what i have done to my 32, however it does not have a rb30 but would without a doubt accommodate one with out any problems

You can kinda see the cutout section in the second photo.. sorry i dont have any others at this time.

I have always redrilled the holes in the engine mount where it bolts to the block, around 8 mm from memory. That's about all I could get with a 4wd sump adaptor and a larger sump. I simply lowered the engine on the jack until it touched the subframe, up a little bit, then mark the engine mounts accordingly.

Let's face it drive shaft angles suffer much worse when you lower the car 40 mm and that affects both front and rear, in comparison 8 mm at the front only is no big deal.

Cheers

Gary

Marko ive already told you who to call to get around this issue. I told you about 12months ago.

Also, if you did a search you'll find a thread by me about bonnets, i tried already to just get a CF one, none of the ones i found fit without changing/modding the mounts

Bit OT, but how do you find that air-thru headlight?

    • Resizing injectors in Nistune can be done a couple of ways, and there are a couple of ways that you can make a mess of it. The tuner needs to be really aware of the effects of whichever approach he uses (either K, or TIM). They are both easy enough to "get the injector size right" to run the engine. But little details like old start enrichment and hot start are affected differently, depending on which boxes you check.
    • Pretty safe to say almost everyone that has tuned their own car has experienced this issue. The difference being that we have our laptop in the car and when it happens, it's literally 10 seconds of tuning to sort it.  Would you be happy to plug in your laptop and sort this yourself? It is a very simple process and there is no risk of harming your engine (if you are worried about that).
    • Yeah thats the next step now, either they wil or i will take out for a drive to work and go straight their after work and see is we get the same issues 🤞  thought i try my luck here too, never know someone else might have had the same issue but thanks for the reply
    • Basically your tuner needs to drive it for the 30 min (or whatever) to create the same conditions then check the ECU settings and sensors at that time. They may not be excited to because that takes them 30 min rather than just opening the bonnet and seeing the problem straight away.... Hot start is generally not as tricky as cold start, but there would be a table for fuel enrichment vs coolant temp as a starting point
    • Yeah, they all cant say anything for sure as everything is working fine . Said unable to find an issue untill it stops again. Could mist likely be CAS wiring or IAS valve issue but again not 100%
