Ok All,

I took delivery of my V35 sedan yesterday and put the following on today:

1. Nismo type ABS plastic front grille (approx $160USD delivered, from the USA)

2. Carbon Fibre radiator air diffuser (approx $50USD plus postage, from the USA - didn't fit well, so I took it out again)

3. Bonnet struts x 2 ($100 delivered, from Taiwan)

4. Cold Air Intake with K&N filter (approx $120USD delivered, from the USA)

5. Clear side indicators (approx $40AUD, 2nd hand from Dubai)

1. Nismo type front grille (1 x flathead screwdriver "FHS", doublesided tape, 4 new plastic push-in type plastic fasteners)

I spent 20 mins figuring out how to remove the existing chrome grille and broke all 4 of the plastic push-in type fasteners at the top of the grille. Use a FHS to loosten the top bit of the fastener, then use fingers to pull them out. My advice is to be careful with these, or be prepared to buy new ones. Luckily I found a whole bag of these plastic type fasteners from my old man's garage. Note: I did not break them getting them out, but pushing them back in!!! Very brittle...

On the original chrome grille, apart from the top 4 plastic fasteners, it is held in place by the grille's push-lock anchors and are impossible to reach by hand. There is 1 at the far end of grille, then, under the grille, there are 4 more of these buggers. Do not break them!!! This is where my 20 mins went...Whan you need to do is use a FHS and shove it into small gap on each end to unlock the fasteners. Use extreme caution and force and eventually, they will pry open. Once u've unlocked these, you can then open a gap into the grille/glass composite reinforcing to get to the bottom 4 anchors. With these 4 anchors, there is no way to use a FHS, so use your finger and squeeze the plastic locking mechanisms on the anchors and slowly pull towards you.

I know I should have took some pics to show u, so maybe I'll take some shots tomorrow and highlight what I am going on about...

Once the grille was removed, everything else was simple (since the grille was sprayed by the panelbeater)....

2. Carbon Fibre radiator air diffuser

FUDGE!!! Not happy Jan!!!! This has got to be the most worthless piece of aftermarket junk I've ever put it...The lever section wasn't cut correctly and the fit was SHIET...What a waste of my money...Anyway, rather than waste the piece of junk, I an planning to get it modified to fit and use it as the template for a metalsheet maker to make some bulk lots in aluminium or stainless steel. Please let me know if you are keen, if there is enough interest, I'll go pursue it...

This air diffuser sits between the glass composite radiator support and the front grille and is supposed to divert more air into the stock airbox...I feel that it's more bling than performance though...

3. Bonnet struts x 2 (12mm socket wrench for the bonnet nuts, 10mm socket wrench for the panel bolts)

Time after time, this Taiwanese seller has not let me down. 1st I bought a Mazda 3 kit off him, then an MX5 kit from him. The kits are really good quality. Anyway, it was a simple install as all the brackets were bolted down by original holes and took about 10 mins, so no drilling and can be removed later as easily as they were put on. Not much tips/advice here, but his installation instructions were are bit crap. Overall, very satisfied with the 2 struts, they hold the hood up high with no troubles, just like those euro cars. I am gonna have the bonnet stand/stalk thing removed tomorrow as I don't need it after this kit...

4. Cold Air Intake with K&N filter (FHS, nose plier, 10mm socket wrench)

This proved to be a very easy task. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 screws off the V35 engine cover, then there are 2 bolts holding the whole system in place. Once removed, go the the stock air intake's 1st cowl section that sits on top of the glass-composite reinforced radiator support; there are 2 push-in type plastic fasteners. Use a FHS and pry them open. Remove cowl.

U don't need to undo the stock airbox to get to the filter as the whole stock air intake can be lifted up. But, before you do this, loosen the clamp from the plenum with a FHS and slide the rubber coupling from the plenum. The air return feed about 10cm away with a nose plier. Do not use brute force, treat like a lady but be firm and persistent...

You now need to tug on the stock system in an upwards pull and it should all come out. There is 1 more section of the stock air intake that is far down passenger side headlight. You can choose to remove this or leave it like what I did. If you want to remove it, then you will need to remove the plastic wheel arch on the passenger side front tyre.

For my CAI kit, I needed to use the stock MAF sensor, so you will need to unbolt MAF sensor from the stock airbox housing (where the air filter sits).

The kit was fairly basic, so I just pushed the rubber couplings in, and fastenede the clamps. I then bolted everything together and fond a good mounting spot for the bracket that came with it. It was a flat piece of aluminimum, so I had to bend it and it was just long enough to mount on one of the existing bolt holes. I also put the 1st section of the stock air intake cowl back on.

The whole process took about 40 mins...The kit was quite good and came complete. The K&N filter came pre-oiled too...If anyone wants help sourcing and installing one, please let me know.

5. Clear side indicators

Due to the nature of how easy these are to remove once you know how they are secured, I am not going to share the installation process with you guys as I fear my clear indicators may go walkabouts in a carpark somewhere in the future. However, if you want help, please contact me with a pic of you having a set in your hands and I'll spill my guts if you need my help.

The Panasonic LCD TV/Satnav...has anyone got a simliar system? It's quite useless and is only used for the reverse cam function (Satnav is for Japan, TV frequency is for Japan)...I am seriously going to remove the whole system shortly as it attracts attention (and I don't want my windows broken)...

Nice write up and congrats with the new sedan. Is your oem grill the chrome one? If so how much do you want for it? Also can you point me to where you got your grill from in the us?

Ok thanks. Keep me in mind if you want to sell either one of them. IMO the aftermarket one looks much more aggresive and better looking than the OEM one. Do you have the link to where you got the aftermarket one?

By the way, I reckon I saw your car about 3 weeks ago at a strip of shops on duke st in sunshine (tint-a-car, #1 tyres, few other mechanics). Unless there is another navy v35 sedan in the area...

I only got my V35 from Richmond on Sat, prior to that, it would have done laps around the Dandy area and Eastern Suburbs getting complied, resprayed, etc...

I peeled off the 350GT badge today and put a K&N sticker on it, so it shouldn't be hard to spot in the West...

1. I have no instruction booklet

2. The remote for the unit is missing

3. I still don't know how the unit works as the whole entertainment system is in Jap...

Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated! I mean, do you need to physically remove the hard disk and copy stuff to it? And, do you need the remote?

I searched eBay US to buy mine. Just make sure that it's ABS and not fibreglass. From memory, it was $160USD delivered and in offwhite colour.

I could arrange a group buy, but for sedans only via the seller....If anyone is keen, PM me and I'll start a GB in a new thread, and I'll see if I can get the price down via this seller. I also doubt there will be huge savings on GB postage due to the item taking up a lot of box volume and can't be stacked, so it's best they send it directly to you.

If you are desperate, please just search eBay US.

Fire up translation software and off you go..

Have finally got mine set up. Have installed a PA-11 NIS iPod kit to allow iPod to plug into Nissan stereo. Also have Satnav L&R outputs plugged into spare inputs on PA-11. This means that movies played on sat nav (NTSC region free or region 4 I think) now play with sound through stereo. Have also fitted Griffin Tune Center so that I have more control over iPod and can see what track is playing etc. with the composite and L&R from that plugged into sat nav... Also means I can play movies off iPod on screen, sound through stereo...

I do have the remote for my sat nav, but do not need it for any of the adjustments that I do for the picutre. I think it was more for the sat nav functions.

Next time I am in Japan, I will get a collegue to try to get me a panasonic camera.. Spare input is there just waiting to be used...

I would be thinking twice about the Stillen cat back exhaust. I imported one for A$1100 and it was dented (obviously done at the factory as the box was undamaged) the twin pipes were 10 mm out of centre and the sound was deafening. Plus the joins were slip jointed with clamps - really agricultural. I had to subsequently have a local exhaust place modify it for $500 by adding a new centre muffler and flange joint and now it is excellent apart from tailpipes being out of centre. Stillen didn't bother replying to my emails after the first one!

is yours the gen 1 or gen 2? i know the gen 1's are very very noisy....mine is the gen 2 and is $955USD plus $300USD shipping...it's made for the sedan with the twin X cross pipe design.

so far, i've heard Stillen makes good stuff, so that's why i've opted to buy one...wish me luck...

Mine is the single pipe cat back system and was $1100 including shipping. It got louder the longer I had it. Good luck

Update...

Bought a set of 2nd hand WALD Streifen 19" for the V35....19x8.5 +38 Offset. They fit quite well. Too bad that they have some gutter rash and the clear coats are cracking...Apart from that, I quite like them....

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again? 
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer 
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
