Hey people,

Well tonight on the way home from work some lovely people driving other cars decided to run into the rear of my car while i was stopped at a traffic light :(

I want to take the car to some body shops tomorrow to try and get some opinions and possibly a quote on costs to fix, whether its a write-off etc.

anyone know anywhere decent in the browns plains area i could try? the car is drive-able but doesn't look pretty so i dont want to drive too far.

Cheers,

Steve

Go to Camerons body works they not that far from browns plains they in the rocklea area and have never heard anyone say anything bad about them apart from the fact that they sometimes to busy lol

Heres a linki to all their details:

OH NO!

Firstly, Lime Green is my favorite colour/obsession!

Secondly, how the f@*k did they not see you! You hardly blend into the background! Thats the first thing i would have said! lol lol

Hope you get it reparied soon and they can match that colour well.

yeah who knows. 3rd car hit the car behind me, car behind me hit me. certainly did a good job of it.

colour is hothouse green (new commodore green) with gold pearl. its most likely a full respray anyway so matching shouldnt be a problem.

might even be written off yet as i think the chassis is bent. but i dont know a whole lot about this stuff.

i know it sucks though

were u at archie on wed 2 weeks ago?

.. up the road from there, archerfield smash repairs.. colebard street west..

they are good too

Not pretty. Assesor will most likely want to write it off. Fight it though. A mate of mine had similar damage to his 33 and he got it fixed. Cost close to 10k to get done too. His was a custom mix yellow, so the whole car had to be resprayed.

nah last time i was out there was about a month ago to race go karts haha.

yeah i was guessing it was gonna be at least $8000 to be fixed and considering market value for these are like $12000 max on redbook they are gonna want to write it off.

im just worried about 2 things:

1. insurance wont let me use my own repairer and the work wont be done properly and i get f**ked around.

2. they write it off and i only get a shit payout and am out of pocket 1000's of dollars.

anyone had any experience with this stuff? as far as i see i was stopped at a red light and got run into so i should be able to do it whatever way i want to, to level out my situation and they should provide me with a courtesy car for the time it takes to be fixed.

haha only in a perfect world

Just an update guys (if anyone cares haha)

took the car to camerons, he didnt quote on it needs a whole rear half cut, respray etc cost in excess of $8000 and would probably write it off. can be fixed but he's too busy.

then went to assessment centre, and the guy just went "oh shit, probably a write off" left my car with them so they can get an independent valuer in because he couldnt do it.

so should have a value by friday hopefully and i get to keep the car because im a 3rd party.

so the green r33 is no more.

check the classifieds though as i'll have it up for wrecking in the next few weeks probably ;)

If you really want the car repaired and you're insured with someone who calls themselves an "enthusiast" insurer (particularly if you have a highish agreed value) then you could try arguing that you want it repaired because you can't replace the time you've spent and the sentimental value that comes with it. Explain that it was your first decent car or whatever the case may be and if they truly are enthusiasts they'll understand, and if it's an otherwise marginal call it might just convince them to lean your way and repair it rather than call it an economic write-off.

Worth a go?

Oh thats crap dude, shouldn't the person who hit you (or their insurance) be paying out the amount the assessor writes the car off for?

yeah its all covered by the other persons insurance.

so im just waiting to see what value it comes back at. and i will be paid out for that amount. and have been told i will be able to keep the vehicle. should be able to get a fair bit back out of that.

i wasnt too keen on having it repaired as part of the chassis is bent. i know its not a major part but its still part of it.

would it be the same after that? will i have problems later? resale value of car after its been in an accident? how long till its fixed? etc.

i'll miss the car for sure, but hopefully with payout+taxback+savings+selling parts, i'll end up with something as good or better.

we'll see how it goes

Oh thats awesome what you complaining about, take the payout, keep the wheels and other parts you need, strip the rest and you will probably be making money.

I went to a smash repairer on Moss street, they were NOT good!!! I almost had a coronary dealing with them. It was a horrible experience. Like your wife being in a 3rd world hospital where the care is crap and hygeine worse....but you can't get her out!!!!

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
