hey guys, i got pulled over last night for a routine inspection of my r33 -.- (due to me being on my P's and such) anyway, the cop asked if i had a permit for my pod filter  I was under the impression that if its got a heat shield and is bolted firm to the body its all legal and a permit is not required :( If someone could clear this up for me that'd be great!

Cheers :)

Chris.

Didnt whats-his-name get yellow'd just the other month for no heat shielding on the cold side intercooler pipes?

Officers think everything needs to be heat shielded now, even if they're not hot ? Idiots.

How secure does the pod need to be? Can you hold it down with cable ties? or does it need to be rock solid firm, with a bracket n shit ??

only needs to be secured... the boxed rule is only in the eastern states, not here. And there is no permit required for a pod filter. Tell the officer to get f*cked.

lol... im sure you car would be going home on a back of a tow-truck if you said that, and by home i mean lockup yard lol

The cops will canary you for a dusty indicator globe. Let's face it, they're out of control.

As long as you are sweet with your ADR's, the inspector at the other end will tell you that the cop was a dickhead and pass you.

You may as well get used to it because it's part of owning a high performance vehicle, you WILL be a target for a wanker in a blue uniform with a chip on his shoulder who got knocked back by his fist trying to toss off. He'll take it out on whoever he wants.

Scrap sheet of 1.2mm ally, jigsaw and a white pen/texta.

I made two brackets that bolted the pod filter to two of the captive nuts where the stock airbox used to bolt.

I have an ARC airbox sitting at home that if it doesn't sell I might try make it work with the new turbo setup.

im not really too sure about this statement. Ive been driving my import for about 2 years now... and before that i drove a V8 ute (While on my P's)... and before that on my L's i drove a Ford XE with a 351 in it... and out of all those cars and years (6 all up including my Ls) ive driven these performance cars ive never had much trouble with the police. Only alcohol busses and the 1 speeding fine. I have been pulled over once when i was in the hills cruising but the police were good to me and only had a chat and told me to get going due to the storm was coming.

In all three cars i had aftermarket rims, exhausts ( The ute had dual exhausts coming out the side and sounded mean as), gauges ...etc etc The ford and the holden ute both had engine swaps to larger and better V8s. Not to mention i had dual throttle set up with two massive pod filters coming off them. The skyline is coming up to this point soon.

I think it what it really comes down to is the following:

1. Your driving attitude... dont drive like a d*ck. I very very rarely will speed on public roads. One speeding fine ( Minor.. ) since i got my licence is 2004.

2. The way you have modified your car... All my cars have been modified to the highest standard. I do most of the work my self (I have a workshop) and always make sure i do a good job. This means no cable tieing front mounts on or any other dodgy work like that. This also goes for the way you look after your car. I usually clean my car weekly... so its always presentable and clean. Most people who have seen my car on cruises and around can vouch for that.

3. If the police officer if he does pull you over. Admit your mistakes if you know you have made one. On the other hand if you havent, then dont admit you have. If you intend to do the wrong thing, then be prepared to pay the price and dont be pissed about it.

Having said all this, i would admit that there are probably few in the police force that would give a sh*t about all of the above... however ive yet to meet this police officer.

just my 'bit' more then 2cents...

Agreed Brendan, I've been driving for 11 years and fair enough I have about 3 speeding fines in total, have only ever lost 2 points (1 of the fines) and I have NEVER been pulled over by the cops. It is all about attitude, you drive your car like a dick and the cops see you, they will have it in for you instantly and will go to any lengths to piss you off, because there's not a lot you can do about it. However keep your head down and behave, cops will barely ever look at you twice.

As said before, just make sure the pods are bolted down and you'll be fine.

I've been pulled over many times. Some for a license check, others just because. Sometimes I've been given the green light and told to be on my way, but on three other occasions I've received nothing short of harassment.

I have NEVER been done for speeding or for doing any stupid crap in my Skyline, I have on my bike and 4WD, but never in the 32.

The first time I was stickered was because some twat in a V8 was doing burnouts in a industrial area late one afternoon and I happened to come through just as the cop neared the area. I was blamed for it even though I had 4 kids in the car and I was dropping something off to the missus. I was done for my GT wing, windscreen sticker, pod filter, suspension, rims, bodykit, FMIC and BOV. When I went to the pits first thing the next morning, the inspector told me the only thing that was illegal was the GT wing. He gave me a mod permit for everything else, removed the sticker and told me to remove the wing when I got home. I did.

The second time was when I was going to the shop and was pulled over for going too fast through a roundabout. I was never given a fine but I was stickered for the BOV. I showed the mod permit to the cop and she said that it shouldn't be on the mod permit because they're illegal. I went to the pits and the inspector pulled the sticker off the car and told me to go on my way after paying the pit fee.

The third time I was on my way home and I was pulled over for a license check. I grabbed the mod permit, stepped out of the car, handed it to the cop. He took a quick look at it and stickered me for my rims. I told him that they were the same rims that were on the permit and he told me that they were illegal and had more than likely been swapped over. I told him what I thought of him and what his wife did to a certain part of my anatomy and drove home in a shitful mood. I went back to the pits the next morning and the inspector shook his head and told me that the cop was an officious prick. Needless to say, the sticker was removed, I paid the pit fee and went to work.

I'm either a dickhead magnet or I've had bad luck, but either way they won't stop me from enjoying my car.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
