Hey Guys.

Was working on my R33 GTS-T Series 2. Put in new plugs. and now the car has never run the same.

I replace the plugs as the car was unstabe under heavy throttle loads.

I put it back together and its running like a WRX.

After this tho....

I bought new CoilPacks, and new plugs again... and gapped them. and changed the fuel filter.

AND it is still running like a shitbucket wrx. tested crank angle sensor and engin compression ratio, and also fuel pressure.

Any Help.

Next step is to have a look at the injectors.

Any suggestions before i take my car to bits?????

Cheers,

Michael

yeah will do..

My mechanic mate has put more plugs in and tested them... but will get him to do it again.

So not fuel related.????

Even though it is running lean?

Keep coming with the suggestions :D

It's probably an ignition issue. Try swapping an ignitor with a buddy and see if that works. Also, what are you gaping the plugs to and what kind of coils are you running? Pull the cover off an pull the coil plugs off one at a time. the one that doesn't just about kill the motor and sounds the same is your problem cylinder.

Your car probably isn't actually running lean. If you don't have spark in one cylinder then air and fuel is just passing threw causing the wideband to read lean.

Hope that helps.

I have had new plugs that where stuffed straight out of the box, quite a few times over the years, but

Try testing the wiring loom for the coils, the loom for these that runs to coils is fairly straight foward to remove from car. I'd bet the loom has poor conections inside it and since you moved this to fit new plugs etc, its proberly upset the ageing factory wiring.

(note) it may test ok, have a look inside loom, I recently did on my gtr and found a real problem as there is a number of wire crimps, which I soldered and my car its now even more of a joy to drive than ever before. If you don't realy know how to solder best to get someone who knows what their doing as these wires are a bit thick at crimped area.

TIP don't just wrap in electrical tape use self alamagating tape, far better sealing properties but expensive. Jaycar have it.

Hope this helps.

    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
