I've done a search and havnt found much info on cleaning turbos while they are out of the car.

im currently halfway through removing/replacing exhaust manifold studs and while everything is apart taking advantage of making sure everything is clean and in good condition.

Just wondering if its ok to take off the compressor cover on the turbo to clean the blades and the inside of the turbo? Will it but the turbo out of balance at all? its a HKS GT2530 with garrett front cover.

Any help appreciated car in shed been in there for 3 weeks now really missing driving it :P

Cheers Rohin.

Your best bet is to clean it with kerosene, this is friendly to the bearings as it keeps them lubricated while removing the grease buildup and doesnt harm any seals. This comes from 5 years of experience working on Industrial size motors, alternators, compressors etc. hope it helps :P
