:D Don't make presumptions about me or my past or current level of expendable income. Would you walk up to a guy in the street and say nice car how did you pay for that? Don't you think the money would have been better spent on ........ I'am not going to elaborate and would prefer not to have I' am 18 maybe you should have spent the funds on .......... posts.

If you have the funds, and you have a passion for cars, the cost of a purchase and a build can become exorbitant my current R34 which I have been tinkering with for the best part of two years is at about the same level of expenditure. Hopefully some will agree?

The rumour mill spun alot of details about "the mechanic" after selling the COPYME GTR I was surprised at how many people I met in QLD and NSW who had similar experiences to tell.

mate you are the one who offered the story - no Ive never walked up to someone and enquired how they "afforded" that....

sucks to be you.

Ive had the passion bud and my stag / zx9r proves I still do. oh, also have my house all paid for outa my hardearned, doing it Tough every single hour.

1996 zx7r, 1998 zx9r, highly worked 1998 cbr900rr, 2001 zx-9r mod'd

1970 vw type 3 wagon, 1977 celica 1600, 1980 escort, 1992 EB wagon, 1995 VR BT-1 V8 mod'd, 1995 pulsar, 2003 daewoo, 2002 escape, 1997 stagea highly mod'd

mate, Im simply disappointed for you seeing Ive had the opposite experience.

if the morphine and other meds make my morning viewpoint come across as harsh, well, soz but thats how it is.

really pissed that not ONE of your family or mates came up with a different option; woulda saved you a penny or two and being taken for half-a-ride

but simply you dont understand this poor fellows financial sittuation nor his families? 180k may be water off a ducks back to them and he made this point based off principle, not for pointing out the loss of money more so to warn others tobe carefull no matter what the financial stake???

as for breaking kneecaps etc, no offence but dont you currently struggle to walk?

Since this thread is turning into questioning about income, affording big $ builds, etc.

Let me point to Queen St Smash.

Rahaaab, Habbib and Hajid invest huge amounts of drug money into impractible cars with 28" Crystal-encrusted Vaults, leather everywhere (even under the bonnet if they could), etc. I loved seeing them decked out in D&G clothing on all those car DVDs talking about how difficult it was to insert crystals into the manifold and fabricate LCD's to the exhaust pipe.

In other news, I'm off to deposit more money into my Swedish off-shore bank account.

You've gotta laugh.

Now quit questioning the guys income/how expensive the build was. His car. His money.

...Im shocked that while plenty ppl, such as friends/family & fellow enthusiests, knew you were outlaying big money for a car project no-one stood by and wisely pointed out things from a different perspective.

meh a fool and his money is soon parted

The only remark when all came to light by fellow SA enthusiast was "I don't want to get involved" You know who you are! Several individuals interstate who I had a very loose association with were far more helpful. I will not elaborate on the position of friends or family in the matter which is why they're impact/involvement was not included in the events described.

This was a post written on the basis of principle simply because I give no information about my financial position, regardless of the funds that part hands you should be getting what you pay for which is the purpose of the tail.

May I add that I' am not a drug dealer and never have been, I' am sure the post wasn't directed at me but just waiting for speculation. :)

No offence, but people who kneecap others don't usually feel the need to say so on an internet forum ;)

at the end of the day...who are we to say that he's spent alot of money for a young fella??? if i had funds....i know id have one of the quickest 31's in the country....story being he got screwed out of a lot of it by some loser that probably is buzzard food by now....im an enthusiast who knows what he wants...just like mr copyme....who gives a toss at how much money he's spent....if you want the best...pay the coin.....im just sorry you got screwed over majorly on what looked to be such a groin grabbingly beautiful piece of machinery

I wonder if I'm the only one stunned at the idea of a 21 year-old having access to spending $180K+ (if I've read that right) for just a car ...

If he is from China or from HK I can understand. Especially after how my girlfriends cousin is spoilt ;)

Lucky my parents never gave me a cent and told me to work, because I worked for my money I bought a house at 22 not waste it like some other the sphincter of the universes my age with money.

...reading this story makes me glad Im not a spoilt rich kid :)

Actually mate, I'am not Asian, naiveté in my early 20's maybe with mechanics. But nice to know you have the ability to make assumptions. :) I gather your use of the "...because I work for my money..." remark your trying to Imply I do/have not? Otherwise I would question its relevance to your post. A good education and thinking outside the box can lead to a healthy bank balance, the latter was not provided in any form by either parent.

So give it a rest take the point I was trying to make before I have to slap you with my wallet! :)

I remember your car CopyMe. I use to see it often and I know of the mechanic you speak of.

I am sorry to hear what happened to you and you are definately not the only one that cop it from him. :ninja:

I heard he went to Dubai and then got kick out of there and not sure where he has ended up now :)

So what are you doing with yourself now?

I appreciate the thought, It's only money at the end of the day. Still working in wholesale; couple of chinese companies make great reproductions from designers such as Diki, Lejaby, Aubade, Lise Charmel, Marie Jo, Luxxa. Same quality as the designer factories just alot cheaper to buy.

Apart from that have a family of my own now, and my time that isn't taken up with them, I spend working on my toys.

ahh, sounds like you're in the same line of business as my buddy Evan who runs all the Innerware stores around Adelaide.......up to 5 or 6 stores now.

He also spends a fair bit of time in China organizing container loads of stock.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
