Hi was wondering if anyone could help with this issue,

I've just done a rb20det conversion wired it up and its not starting, I've read quite a few threads with people having the same problem but nothing I've learnt from there has got mine going. It's getting spark , the two green relays by the ecu are clicking, the fuel pump is working on que with fuel going through the system and returning back to tank, check the plugs and there dry as anything , The fuel lines are the correct way around, i can put fuel down the intake and it runs for a little, So im left scratching my head the only thing I can put it down to is the injectors not pulsing and i dont really know were to go from here.

Any help would be appreciated CHEERS.

injectors...

i guess just check they are wired up properly.

have they been tested/do you know they work for sure?

are they standard and what ECU are you running?

its def and injector-related problem, so give me EVERY bit of info you have on them...

whats the motor going into?

Its in a hilux, im not sure if there working for sure i cant hear or feel them clicking when cranking

The fuel rail is after market, not sure on injectors ( not to familiar with rb's yet ) but there red if that helps.

Running standard ecu .

Thanks.

bahaha f**k me thats a good motor swap!

well done!

ahh yeh injectors...

stock RB20 injectors are a darkish red...

they flow 270cc if my memory doesnt fail me. (sorry i do x-trails, not really skylines)

if they're not clicking, then they arent working.

they could be blocked, or not communicating the the ECU correctly.

my money's on the latter. take em to a performance shop or anywhere that does testing to see if they actually work

but for now i guess just double check they are wired in right.

grab a volt meter and check to see if the terminals on the injectors are getting current, and with no interruption.

where you get the motor from? a front cut?

do you know any history of the motor?

Injectors are gummed up I bet. Has the motor been sitting for a while? Because if it is the injecors are probably just gummed up.

Take the CAS out, keep it plugged in and get a mate to turn it over same direction as cranking with IGN on. Then grab a screw driver and hold it against one of the injectors bodies and put your ear on the end of the screw driver.

Should be able to hear it pulsing throught the screw driver when turning the CAS over.

If nothing then check your 12v constant on the injectors, out of the 2 wires on each plug/injector one will be the same colour on each, this is your 12v. With the IGN relay on, you should be getting 12v on this wire for each injecor before cranking.

If your voltage is OK, remove the rail and tap each injecor body lightly with a screw driver until they start pulsing. I usually leave the rail plugged in when doing this, as you can hear them come in.

If your missing 12v from the injectors, then there is a large plug near the AFM side with 6 or so spade terminals on it, one of the spade terminals gives the injectors 12v, I think it's a light grey colour.

Get a multimeter and go through each spade terminal until you find it.

Haha yeah im pretty keen to get it up and running, the Running gear came from a bloke on these forums from a running car.

Its been sitting for a good 18 months so im hopping injectors are just gummed up like you said.

Il give all of the above a shot first thing in the morning.

Much apprectiated guys!

Was informed im missing the injector ballast off the harness , didnt even realise so hopefully should bang up this week some time when i get hold of one!
RB20 doesn't run ballast on the injectors. Unless the previous owner fitted GT-R injectors.

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
