My mods are below:

R33 2.5L, Stock Turbo, FMIC, 3'' Exhaust System.

Would it be fun to have as i have a large cooler.

Cheers

It would depend on what specs the turbo is, but yeah, if you pick the right combo, it can be heaps of fun :D

Although, with a larger turbo and higher boost, you'll definitely have to pay some attention to the fuel system, otherwise the motor will go BANG!!!

//RS500.

The previous owner of my car said the turbo on it was a 450hp T04. The guy at Garrett told me it was a T04E when I asked him what it was (I didn't say "Is this a T04?")

Since then though, I've discovered that most other people with T04's have an external wastegate. Mine is internal, so now I'm thinking I just have a T04 compressor cover and who knows what exhaust housing, which looks too small for it.

Small exhaust housing and internal gate aside, it goes really well. Starts spooling at around 2000rpm, and full boost (15psi) at 4500. Which is a little laggy, but not terrible by a long shot. It still feels quite responsive, and I hope to improve it some more with an adjustable exhaust cam gear in the near future.

It's doing well enough now to max out my AFM, which actually surprises me. I'm now thinking about increasing the exhaust housing size to fatten out the power curve a bit (not necessarily increase it).

Yea i've got one...hi flowed T04, stainless steel wheels...I am told that running absurd amounts of boost is no problem with hi-flowed turbos. i've had it up to 15psi at times...now it makes 185rwkw on 10psi which is just nice for my daily driving. For real good results, an aftermarket ecu would help, but i'm only running an S-AFC, and with something like a rising rate fuel regulator, pushing 220rwkw could be done easily i think...just turn up that boost!

I've got stock injectors and the AFM is maxing out before the injectors. The injectors get up to 93% duty though, so they are being upgraded along with the AFM anyway. A rising rate regulator should do the job well enough for a mild power increase.

I found that my PFC indication of 90% injector duty cycle was actually 100%, any addition of fuel made no difference to Air fuel ratio's

hey wld747, my boost starts at about 3500rpm...n yea, higher boost seems to help the turbo do better. the power really comes on after about 5-6psi. I only just found that out. works almost like a vtec

The rising rate fuel regulator will even out the fuel maps so that your air flow meter voltage doesn't max out, allowing you to run more boost. My car experiences boost cut at 12psi now becasue of this, so it's been tuned down to 10psi. the fuel regulator will do away with this boost cut problem (so says gavin wood)

Before I put my FMIC on, I was running 15psi momentarily with no problems, the car made 200rwkw back then...now it makes 200rwkw on 12psi.

basically, just get an S-AFC plus a fuel regulator, and u should be fine. 16psi will be no sweat, if that's what u want.

anyone know if most T04 turbos have internal or exteral wastegates?

and what costs have people had when putting a T04 onto their RB25.

I got some questions also need answering so please help.

* I need a new exhaust manifold to put the turbo on! Right?

* Do i need new oil / water lines

* Whats the wastgate part?

thanks in advance

I got a t4 on my RB25... and it's for sale too at the moment :D

Did you ever come on a vic cruise up until approx 4 months ago???

t4 turb's are external wastegated is you have a true t04.

But i have a t4... with a t3 rear on my RB25.

so with the t3 rear you dont need an external wastegate :D

So my setup is like JimX.. t4 core/front housing.

and the t3 style rear end.

Most people think that when you say t3/4 (which ours are) that people mean a t3 CORE machined out to fit t4 wheels in.

You might be able to fit it to the stock manifold.

From what i've seen on a number of cars lately... anything is possible with a bit on enginuity (sp)

As for response same as JimX, it was a little laggy but overall not too bad.

13psi at 4200rpm or so.

and down at BMT we made a lazy 203rwkw on 13psi.

but i reckon the turbo wasnt near it's efficiency range at all as we bumped it to 15psi quickly and gained 30rwkw.

But then the fuel system wasnt too happy with that and needed more than just a fuel pump. So i'd suggest injectors as well as a fuel pump.

little bit more boost, about 17-18psi.

and then it's REALLY get up and move.

I reckon go for one! Is you set it up right as RS500 said then you wont have a problem at all with it.

and they are cheap to rebuild too :P

dont forget mine is for sale :) :headspin:

Nrage33 do you have an internal or external wastegate?

ash

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
