The resonator helps reduce NVH from the motor making the car seem more luxurious/smooth. The z tube from US cars has no resonator though. Without analysing it too much, having any form of resonator should create a bit of turbulence and decrease of air speed which is not what you want for the car...unless of course you want it to be more quiet etc.

Ask Alan/Scathing, pretty sure he's taken his tube off before and noticed a small resonator on it.

Honestly, I would get one from the US. The US Z tube is better and being from the US works out a lot cheaper.

Shipping usually takes four days. I got mine from Riverside Infiniti, however there are other vendors out there, that are as good as if not better.

G35driver.com and Google are your friend.

As for install, seriously, 10mins with your eyes closed.

You don't even need to take it off to see it.

Here's the AuDM intake pipe on my car:

See that branch off the intake tube, just right of the strut brace? The one that seems to be a shortcut to the intake plenum in the photo, but in reality goes nowhere? That's the resonator.

Here's a USDM engine bay:

No "appendix" on the intake tract.

Dose a Z tube add any "real" power to the car? as in has anyone bothered to do a dyno test or anything... I just cant see there being much of a gain particually on a NA engine

Agreed. I dont know what the facination is with the "z tube". May as well just grab a proper aftermarket item, or leave the stock one there...

There is no real power gains from the Z tube as far as I'm aware. Its a cheap intake mod which reduces restriction compared to the factory V35 intake pipes and as a bonus it gives a more aggresive engine note above 3-4K RPM. If you get it cheap why not...if ur gonna pay $200 for it I say go but an aftermarket shiny one with pod filter.

I did all before and after test on my mods. Plenum spacer, Z tube and JWT pop filter. about 7rwkw on the spacer and another 8rwkw on the Z tube and filter

SO what ur saying is that the spacer was good for 7kw on its own

and then with a filter + the x tube it was good for another 8kw? was this done on the same dyno on the same day @ around the same time as 8rkw from just a ztube and filter sounds like a big gain for what they are

so in total you netted an aditional 15rwkw by having the spacer the ztube and the filter?

    • @GTSBoy This method was able to get readings of -10 to -2, so it looks like its monitoring.  Now I need to figure out why the vacuum on the line provided isn't alternating with manifold pressure.  I went with 2 lines that an RB25 tuner recommended but I'll get a longer hose and try directly off the back of the manifold.  He may have been used to OEM intake setups while I have a DBW setup that removed the MAF and IACV.
    • I work at a car detailing and tinting shop called Quark which gets all manner of German cars in usually (mainly due to a contract with Mercedes Benz Kita Osaka, BMW Nishinomiya and others) but every once in a while something special comes in, like a fully restored 1972 HS30 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG... The shop owner had immediately started applying film to the windows as soon as it was in the shop so the interior was completely covered in towels and plastic sheets. But I could get a few photos of the engine bay which was restored like new. Such an amazing car to see in pristine condition in Japan these days.
    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
