Using Iphone/mobile Gps Device Would Be Illegal From 9th Nov

If you are running a TomTom application and you're using tom tom cradle then I don't see why this should be any different to using a GPS device. All other GPS functionality is a risk though yeah.

It's not Adz. If you have a cradle like that you are fine to use the phone as a GPS.

Basically what the new rule is about is not running around with the gps in one hand whilst driving with the other. It's the same principle as people who put phones on "loud speaker" and hold the phone in one hand or on their lap rather than just talking normally. People have said in the past "but I'm on hands free" and thats what they are trying to cut out as much as anything.

All they are saying is that the phones or gps devices must be secured somewhere rather than being hung onto by the driver. Don't see a problem with this rule personally.

What happened to reading a Melways before you plan a trip?

Or perhaps lookup the route on google maps and print it out?

Personally had a loan of a navman for 6months and hated it.

Always told me when approaching a destination its on the left in

X amount of metres when the actual destination is on the right!

And vice versa! Drove me nuts. Gave it back.

Similar the nokia navigation software had me 1km from the actual destination the other day! I was supposed to go to nokia customer care at cnr princess hwy & blackburn rd (monash home maker centre) and it directed me up princess hwy to where wellington rd crosses near monash uni!

We've all become too reliant on technology.

This is coming from me, an ISP Business Support person.

ps. the only thing i liked about navman is it can be hacked easily and used like a simple computer with ce5 software. It was great for watching tv shows on my lunch break :P

Bout time I reckon... I want whatever that is for the iphone.

update due out shortly, and its a free update once you purchase it. TomTom doesnt update. has all speed cameras(which is all i use it for) the mrs uses it heaps though.

I personally think this is a great idea...

The one problem I see with it, is people will stick their phones to the middle of their windscreens under their rear vision mirror... ...And completely f*** their field of vision out of their cars...

It is illegal to hang anything from your rear vision mirror... ...but for some reason people get away with sticking these things dead centre... ...doesn't make sense... :D

Centre dividing line

A driver will not be able to overtake, or do a U-turn across a single continuous centre line, or a single continuous line to the left of a broken line. However a driver can cross over a centre dividing line (except a double continuous centre dividing line) when entering or leaving the road (see diagram).

This is another good rule to come in... ...(one that I thought was already a law)...

How hard is it to turn right into a side street and then do a u-turn and turn left out of that side street... ...(I say "right" into a side street because if you were to turn "left" into a side street it then makes you have to turn "right" across two directions of traffic rather than enter one direction of traffic)...

    • I'm actually not sure - I think it was "Stealth Performance" (It really is near impossible to find a FEMALE 1/8BSPT to 1/8NPT male at ALL) but having the thing leveraged on a 90 degree angle on a small aluminium fitting is not too smart. Also in not too smart, I've drilled out the center of the broken fitting so there's maybe 0.00001mm of thread to bite into, so yeah. I may have to get it drilled/tapped/plugged entirely. Given I could conceivably tap a thread/adapter/pressure line in any point in the oil system I suppose it's feasible to run a line to the Nissan Sensor to keep the dash working. Do these exist in AN fittings and the like? Like an AN fitting that has a NPT (or other?) thread as well for putting a sensor in?
    • I would agree.  There will be an amount of boost you could run safely with an otherwise factory system, but it would be low enough to not be worth the cost.  And if you are reliving your 20s, you know a 'little bit' was never enough. Personally, if I didn't want to spend the money, then stick with NA bolt-ons, and maybe a tune.
    • Fuark, at least the motor survived. What brand was the fitting that snapped?
    • Wrong question. There's no point in spending the rather large sum of cash and effort to add turbo, without taking it to the "sensible" limit of the motor itself. If you have to upgrade injectors, etc, then so be it. That is a tiny fraction of what it will cost you to turbo it.
