I was just thinking, rather than buy a stroker 2.8 litre crank for the RB26, I would purchase an VL or R31 3 litre motor & it should haul ass, what do you guys think.

I just found out that rims are realy hard to come by for the GTR, something to do with the X factor, (brake caliper clearance to rim) or are the wheel places I visited today just lazzy to show me stuff they might have to order in, they would rather sell me crap looking wheels that they have in stock, which was only 2 or 3 different types to suit my car.

congrats on the purchase :P

regarding the motor it's each to their own, If you have a look on the forced induction section of the forum there's plenty of reading material to be found on RB30 conversions that other owners have done, but personally I'm a purist and would keep the motor RB26 even with a stroker kit, it's at the heart of what makes the GTR what it is in my opinion

to me it would be like putting an RB26 into an old ford and drifting for street cred and one upping the yakuza on a japanese mountain road ;) (ignore this if you've never seen fast and furious 3  )

regarding the wheels there are a number of vendors online here on the forums who can source a number of different style rims to suit what you are after style wise and should come in GTR offsets

Thanks, I think you are right, i'll stick to the original motor & do a rebuild with bigger turbos.

& as far as Fast & the Furious, I love it, I was the only one with a V8 at the Blacktown drive ins when it came out, the part when the blown charger comes out was my favourite, but now I see it in a different light. Not keen on the Stanger in F&F3 with an RB26 in it though.

@ Sean, thanks for the info, your car looks great with those rims.

So far, I have tried the DTM Shines on the car in 19", what do you think, is 19" to big, that is the smallest size they come in.

Here is a pick of them, they are gunmetal grey on the inside, so it would suit the car I think.......what do you's think?

TBH I'd stay with Jap wheels. I sold a set of as new "Work Emotion XD9s in silver, 10X18inch +18offset" for 1.7k, took a month to sell too. Just hunt around and be patient (haha, i doubt that)... I'd stick with 18s on a 32GTR imho...

Hey Dennis,

My mate has an SSV ute with similar mods to your commodore and also a slightly lower diff ratio than standard (his put out around 330rwkw). My GTR currently puts out 250rwkw with more boost, computer, exhaust and injectors and would struggle to keep up in a straight line with the ute (especially if he gets traction). The ute is a very fun car to take a ride to say the least!

Have fun with the GTR, I think it is safe to say when you do upgrade turbos etc it just may blow the door handles off the commodore :P

Hey buddy, yeah i will be racing my misses down the quarter LOL, she says she will wip my ass, I think i'll be getting those bigger turbos very soon.

Not trying to rain on your parade here mate ,both cars a better than mine..

but did you ever consider twin turbos for your commy. i believe the full kit is about 15k..and would eat just about every skyline (and most crutch rockets)

for breakfast lunch and dinner...

anyway i fell for my first drive too, drove it , had to have it...still like it...and it leaves falcodores for dead around corners...and its only a gtst

But if it was my cash id twin turbo the commy...

Unless of course you want a track car then the gtr would win..you can tow it there with the ss

Welcome to the club...

they had a VL there that had a 3 litre in it, with an RB26 head on it, it seems that the head of the RB26 fits on the commodore VL (Nissan) motor, I was just thinking, rather than buy a stroker 2.8 litre crank for the RB26, I would purchase an VL or R31 3 litre motor & it should haul ass, what do you guys think.

Ive seen a few rb30/26 combos but mostly in VLs rather then GTRs though im sure the high octane r34 runs a 3l? not sure if its to do with keeping the rb26 nice and rev happy or what but 2.8 is still a decent amount of extra capacity

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
