Ok so this was a good thread I found in regards to my search so rather than start a new one I thought i'd add to this one.

I got my first EPA notice for exhaust noise about two weeks after getting my R33. Points to anyone who guesses already where i'm going with this.

Bought car with registration

Registered car must be sold with RWC

EPA notice 2 weeks after purchase

RWC lasts 30 days

EPA'ed while still having a valid RWC

Can I use that to fight off this bullshit EPA notice? It clearly states an exhaust system and emissions pass on the RWC.

Sorry but you can't try and pin the tale on another donkey.

RWC covers mechanical, not emissions as stated

You knew full well it was over regardless of the RWC - time to get it fixed.

Under "Tests"

"Exhaust and emission"

Ticked for pass

And no I didn't know it was over the limit. This is my first powerful car.

Trying to figure out what I can do about this. Hopefully it can be made legal without crippling the car's performance.

Ye as in, are they mechanically in order. (ie no leaks, rusted holes in mufflers etc). So the RWC person was well within his rights to say it was a pass IMO.

Not that they are the correct noise level, as again, that is EPA.

What you can do - is pay to get it fixed, or bolt on a stock system and pass then swap back. Same two options we've all had for many years and is covered in the EPA thread.
