hi im about to buy a replacement motor and im wondering if you can perform a compression test on it while its out of the car?

my mate seems to think you can, but a thread on here left me wondering if you need the gbox attached, and sump full of oil. i also realise its meant to be done near operating temp but this is obviously impossible.

its an rb25det, and i have a starter motor and battery to crank it over.

thanks for any and all help!

you need the gearbox attatched because the starter motor bolts to it to hold it in place. don't think you can do it without the gearbox (at least not safely).

and i don't think you can just do it by turning the engine over with a socket on the crank pulley.

also it would be advisable to have oil in it when doing it.
