My Arc Induction Box Install On My 180, And What Needed To Be Did! (custom Piping)

Recommended Posts

Ok so this last week i bought myself an arc induction box, you could definatly question the price of these things and if its worth it, but ive always wanted one and its legal

heres a crap pic of the engine bay before hand... typical china coolerpiping

So when i tried to fit the arc box in, my cooler piping was in the way...

obviously this was a problem!

so me and some friends decided to make custom piping, were metal fabricatos by trade s we thought we'd give it a go!

First step was to take off the cooler piping, install the arc box and then build from there...

Some 90 degree bends and a bit of straight

we forgot about the bov, so an old used t piece was required to be modified!!!

i wish i had pics of the bay before hand, its not finished yet, im yet to take it back to work and polish of the welds..

unfortunatly we did this at my house, we didnt have an ac.dc welder on hand so we just made the piping out of 304 stainless

it was my first shot at making custmo anything really, pretty happy with he end result, apart from having to use and old t piece that had already had random welds on it!!

if anyone decides they want to shove in an arc box in thier car n need help with the piping, me and my friend are more than happy to help!

Nice work.

But Every install I've seen has the filter element facing upwards, even the sr20 versions is there a reason it's on it's side? Or you did that to get more air into it? Notice any difference? www.performance-wise.com have copy versions at half the price...

well i figured that was the way it went... never really understood why it faced upwards...

i figure that when i finally get around to making the cold air intake pipe that goes right to the filter it'd be better?

I dunno as well just how I've seen them on rb's and sr's but since your able to get a cold air pipe it would work better, notice a difference?

I honestly dont see the point especially considering the costs IF its not enclosed ..might as well put a $100 apexi pod in there if it's just gonna be sucking in hot engine bay air. Is this at BelGarage by any chance??

    • Not really, but the heater box is pretty simple mechanically....if the door is one way the air bypasses the heater core and if it is the other way it goes through it for warm air.  If you are sure the actuator you moved manually is for the heater mix (there would also be one for output air direction) then I'd take the heater box out and see what is happening (you'll have to regass and re-coolant the systems afterwards) BTW pp724 onwards from the GTR workshop manual cover the system in good detail, it is probably worth checking. I think the IAT sensor might be a problem electrically for getting cold (if you got 24 error code not -24 it thinks the incoming air is -50c) and it covers how to test the sensor (although most likely it is either not plugged in or a wire is damaged)
    • Use the GKTech subframe bush and bring your subframe 10mm closer to the chassis. You'll need to fix an exhaust hanger to suit. One of the best mods I've done.
    • You'd really have to pull it apart further to know, it least you can be confident that the one heading to the back is not connected any more. There was once a ground on the shifter seal mount too, your head unit issue could be that simple
    • Perfect, I'll get to it this winter then at the same time as I weld on my anti squat kit.
    • Alright so my 32 only has one temperature no matter what degree you set it to. I’ve tried disconnecting the servo motor arm and moving it either direction and got no change. I’ve fixed the leak in my AC and re charged it and with it on and clutch engaged it still blows hot even though the low pressure pipe going to the firewall is ice cold. Both heater core hoses are hot while running as well. Diagnostic code showed 24 for intake air temperature sensor. Anybody got any ideas?
