I am fully with Steve .... I haven't been defected yet, but a mate that owns a certain sweet canary yellow 20B Cosmo (he's about 35 y.o. btw) was driving home from shopping and a copper followed him about 5km then finally pulled him over and stated he 'didn't even need a reason' - when questioned why.

The Cosmo got defected for too low, and too loud exhaust, even though the copper didn't test either noise level or measure clearance whatsoever. Worst thing is that the BOV, Nos, etc will have to be pulled off to get through Regency, yet the cop was too stupid to realise these VERY obvious items were even on the car.

Like most (if not all) of our cars, this is a premium example of a pampered car with the latest and greatest safety devices and is meticously maintained. Unlike the vast majority of male teenage Elizabethans driving their V8 VNs that they picked up for $3k and run around with no brakes and bald tyres, but don't get looked at twice by the fuzz :(

Bushy2k: I am makin a flap in the exhaust so that if i get pulled over, it can basically close the exhaust and make it quiet as.

Im also hightenin my car as to be just a bit under legal limits. Also i now have stock bov, and am goin to place boost controller in a box, therefore makin it non visable. This would mean my car is basically totally roadworthy. I can still imagine that i can get defected. I mean it makes sense. Cops are more concerned about cars being 1-2 cms lower then standard then murders and holdups/theft etc etc.

all other states are more leniant than SA.. QLD being the luckiest.

the only other state that are close to being as strict as SA is VIC who have hardcore EPA tests with their inspections and they have it worse in a way in that they have big ass fines too.

eg.

first offence on loud exhaust. get it inspected.

second offence.. $200-500..

third offence, something like $1g...

and these fines are at each officer's discretion as well.

NSW are lucky in that they can just get a RWC from anywhere (including dodgy backyard mechanics) that will clear a canary..

and overall it isnt a problem with the 'dorifto's' out there losing control. i see more pushrod commodores doing fooly sik burnouts and losing control than an import doing a drift. the problem here is with cops targeting ALL forms of modified vehicles.. be it imported, local, whatever..

Guys im still ****in defected and whats worse is that the wanker inspenctor found a bend/dent in my chassis rail.
oh ohh..... I've got a few dents in the chassis rail from japan in mine..

I had it checked out by a Chassis place and they said sure its deneted but it doesn't affect the integrity of the car as it isn't actually a rail as the cars are monochassis or something. He said it was only cosmetic. He also said there is no way they should be able to defect me for the dent in the chassis.

Well thats what the specialist said. They basically dont do much cos its a mono**** chassis (somethin like that). Basically he said even thou there are bumps in it etc, they wont move for 20years ++. But he also said there is no point arguing it with them. U just have to do it.

This is what makes my blood boil.

Who are these regency blokes? What qualifications do they or are they required to have?

Or are they living with the dinosaurs where cars didn't have the mono chassis?

raaaaaaaaaaa.

Glad I have a degree in mechanical engineering, a backgound trade as a mechanic, a healthy working understanding and tertiary specialisation in radar, laser and acoustics, legal training and a Queens commission.

Cops have cringed when I start discussing these topics during social roadside discussions. Never been canaried tho for some reason.......

A mate has just moved to Adelaide with a modded MX5 so I have to call him and tell him to watch out for the dangerous hoons in imports, and the even more dangerous, due to stupidity, state law enforcement representatives.

I'm looking further into accreditation for the purpose of vehicle engineering inspections and offering a Melbourne service which may help some of the guys here.

I'd be happy to try my luck, and tear them apart in court for constitutional breaches as well as offences under the trade practices act if their services at regency are billed and their findings/advice are inconsistent and misleading. :whip:

The commission gives me authority under the defence force disciplinary act (a federal act of parliament) similar to those of a magistrate, although I don't need a jury and can fine, incarcerate and jail offenders. Ever wanted to argue with a judge? I know who the local magistrate will side with if it came down one word against the other. And if you ever needed an expert witness in regard to things technical or mechanical you get an engineer not a coppa or mechanic. Bring em on.

Just hate that it sux so much for you guys.

Which is exactly why these cretins OWN your asses. Take them on after doing some research.

I don't claim to know everything, but I have a hell of an education and trade qualifications and will not allow myself to be subject to corrupt behaviour.

Sure you think SA is pure as the driven snow. Qld had the fitzgerald enquiry into corruption, NSW had their ICAC and Vic are getting shafted now. Think it's just going to get forgotten? SA will have it's corruption witch hunt but only if people complain enough and demand accountability. they are ONLY public sector employees.

Geoff sounds like you have some sort of plan to stay of defect. when we back chat em over here we get raped. i was defected in my 33 for doin nothin aswell but my car was illegal and i payed the price. I understand where ya coming from and i reckon we need someone like you leadin the way against these people. what ya say?

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
