Lucky you. You're one of only 2 people I've spoken to with unrattly Nissans. I wish I was that lucky.

My old N15 had quite a few dash rattles, and started squeaking when the windows went up after a year or two. There was a fair bit of suspension clunking too, after a while.

My Z33 has had dash rattles from the moment I picked it up, with 24km on the odo. And that's on their halo car, not some cheap entry point vehicle.

At the first 3 services I complained about it to Nissan, who couldn't do anything about it. It picked up even more rattles all around the cabin, some intermittent, as time has gone on.

Most of the S14s and S15s I've been in, back when they had low mileage, have had various rattles. My mate's old Maxima was the same. Same with the imports I've been in, like Skylines and Silvias.

Compared to my old man's entry-model BMW, which is a quarter of a million kilometres old and still pretty tight, you can really sense the quality difference.

The only consistently unrattly Nissans I've been in have been V35s.

+1 prelude. a bit girly but still nice

my dad just sold his 5th gen VTIR recently to some kid on Ps.. see heaps of younger guys driving them around

Here we are... and only 47000Km travelled for a '99 Prelude ATTS... That's just 4700Km/yr

Instead of 4WS, the ATTS system uses sensors to detect that as you go around corners, the outside wheels rotate quicker to improve roadholding. Rarer.

All you have to do now, is haggle like an expert! Says he's negotiable!

However the ATTS system is costly and a pain in the ass to repair with alot of possible faults that can occur. For that reason alone I'd steer clear of any ATTS equipped vehicle. Nearly all I have seen have the warning lights illuminated. That and they hardly ever are serviced as specified.

Chasing a honda, stick with any "japan" built aussie delivered one(steer clear of v6 autos tho) and provided its had regular services and it will easily run for 500k+ kays with no problem.

Just get a Corolla. They're bulletproof, good on petrol, don't look too bad, however probably not as stylist as it's competitors. But at least when you turn the key you know it's going to start every time... and really, that's what you want in a daily.

yea im going to say a AE102 corolla..

Only a small amount of things that go wrong with them..

Inner door handles break.

Boot/fuel door release handle break.

Factory exhaust manifold crack, replace with a OEM one which has changed design and not to happen again.

appart from that they are bullet proof.. if i needed a daily thats what id be getting..

I work for toyota parts, hence knowing what goes wrong with them!

    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
