Hey everyone,

after finally finishing my tafe course (pre-app auto mechanic) and doing some work experience ive realised that is not worth becoming a mechanic (no offense to those who are.) I just think that the little pay that is recieved is a joke, considering when doing an apprenticeship half the time you could be treated like crud (depending on the place u goto) and u get ure ass worked off. Work experience also showed me that, being a mechanic... is just not for me.

Anyways, ive come out of the course knowing more about cars than what i did when i went in, which is exactly what i wanted. Now i want to find a job doing something else, but im unsure what is out there that has decent pay, fairly fun and that would interest me.

Im just looking for ideas, so if you have some (seriously ... dont want random "jokes"), please put em down here, or PM me... either way. It'd be much appreciated.

I just dont wanna end up sitting around the house for 6 months like i did after yr 12, its just boring and not worth it. I wanna get out there and start puttin away some $$bling bling$$ :D

Cheers for any help people! :D

I know the feeling MirKz.... i've just finished 3 years of uni studying accounting and i don't know if i want to work in the industry i've spent the last 3 years studying for. But i found a job where i get to do all the things i like as well as some of the things i've studied and get paid. :headspin:

Start looking in the paper and see if you find something you like :D

Hey I finished uni ages ago and worked in Marketing for about 5 years. The pay was damn good but I always felt it wasnt right working in that field. The point was u had to sell products so your pay depended on how well your products sold and also the number of lies, manipulation and utter effort you had to give to sell these products. Anyways i decided to do a quick 2 year part time course in programming and have worked in IT now for about 3 years as a programmer. IT is great if you have a knack for computers and it has a great creative outlet if you go into the programming side if things. And it really isnt all that hard. Good luck in your choice.

ahaha, yeah I.T. is all well and good, i mean i could do it easily, its just that i rekon i might get bored of sittin in front of a computer all day, who knows. But yeah ive got a part time job, and with working 3 hrs a day i would actually earn more than what i would working fulltime as an apprentice.

i think i will have to look in the paper.

Someone suggested airbrushing cars and creating decals and vinyls, sounds interesting cus i like drawing and art sorta stuff, if i can get a nack for it.

well i had a look in the paper, just for an idea on whats out there, and to me most the things in there sounded quite boring. Like receptionist this and that, and half the jobs you needed experience in the area etc. this is gonna be a real prick of a thing deciding what i wanna do. i just know it

The thing about IT is that it used to be a booming industry ... I hear the jobs are starting to dry up a bit now. My next door neighbour finished his Computer Science degree a year ago and has only just got a job last month.

What sort of qualifications do you have?

As that will affect what you can do.

In reality if you want to get into the I.T. industry you need experience these days. You can have as many bits of paper with your name on it as you want but they don't mean squat. Its who you know not what you know in the I.T industry these days. Thats how i got my first job, through a person i know. My employer didnt even look at mt my resume. Just went on the word of my friend.

Stay the heck away from IT

Been in the IT industry 7 years now.

There are about 1500 new IT qualified UNI/Tafe students being pumped out in Perth each year.

And about 150 NEW IT jobs each year.

Do the math Mofo's. Empoyers have and IT wages are dropping through the floor.

/end bitter IT rant .......

yeah ive heard the IT industry is a waste of time, hence why i didnt do it after yr12, cus it woulda been easy for me to do it cus i can use computers pretty well. I knew that everyone was doing IT and the jobs were filling it so i thought stuff it, i need something else to do.

Im thinkin about getting good at airbrushing and my drawing, and then combine the two and do anime/manga style artwork on cars. ... i dunno yet. but whilst im doing nothing, i may aswell brush up on it all.

to check out my old pics (havent drawn for a while now... a good 6 months or so)

Well for me i did IT for 6 years creating and installing million dollar E-comerce packages for the health system in WA not just normal E-commerce but Gentran. When it comes to online ordering in hospitals lives can depend on it it was nice being woekn up at midnight to run down to east perth data store when 5 servers are being a bit sick. Pay was great but job satisfaction wasn't. Now i work for Zest health clubs! I get to talk to people all day and walk people around who are interested in m'ships! i change is as good as a holiday they say! I am thinking of doing a Australian Institute of Fitness course in Feb. once finished i will be a fully qualified perosnla trainer then the $$$ start rollin! YAY!!

When I was doing my apprenticeship , computers had only just started and 256 was the quick ones.

I did a mechanical apprenticeship and wasn't too fussed about it because of the shit you cop from every one.

IT started and I saw lots of guys making big money because there was no one to fix the computers.

These days it looks like every one is in the IT and white collar field and there is no one to fix the cars...

Trust me , if you are good at your job as a mechanic , there is plenty of opportunity and you can start your own business which is when ( with hard work ) the money will come.

Pick a market that is not being catered for and a few angles that shops haven't thought of and you will be surprised :D

Cheers

Ken

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
