Lol most people on here don't bite, don't need to be scared to ask. Don't understand why you need help just because you are a girl though... And there are plenty of women on these forums that may be able to help you :D

Anyway, in answer to your question, you should look in the consolidated workshop thread, give those shops a ring and find out who can help you. Or im pretty sure KYP do auto to manual conversions. Beyond Custom, XSpeed... I think they do it too. Try using the search function, this topic has been raised plenty of times before.

But just as a matter of curiosity, why do you want to do a conversion? They arent cheap, youre probably looking at between $3000 and $4000, maybe more. Considering you own an R31, isn't that coming close to the value of your car? Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to sell your car and find a manual 31?

i dont want to put it into a workshop coz i wanted to do it myself with someone helping and guiding me. i know it would probably be cheaper to sell mine and buy another one but she is my baby. and i want to convert her coz i love drifting and since i moved here from england i havent had a decent manual. when i was in england i had a 180sx turbo she was lovely and i miss drifting her lol (sado). so i decided i wanted to go abit more old school with my car and thats why i got my 31. once i have done the manual side of things i want to put a turbo on her again i know it would probably be easier to sell mine.

Thanks for your help

I think he was talking in a workshop?

But yeah no way a 31 is gonna cost you 3-4k to convert.

I know how to do a manual conversion but I've never done a 31 before. If you know someone whos done a 31 at some point then I don't mind lending a hand.

Ohhh i see, fair enough. I thought you just wanted to find a workshop that would do the conversion for you. Hmmm I can't help you with that one then lol, but i agree with Renegade, check out the R31 club, they may be able to help you :)

Put the crack pipe down , 31 manual convo 800-1400 max

Yeh probably true that, i know for a 33 you would be looking at about $4000, but i guess a 31 would have cheaper and more readily available parts? Not that expensive then, but even so... if all you wanted was a manual 31 then it would probably be cheaper to just find one.

Good luck with it all Kayla :D

3 - 4 K??? lol

drug money anyone?

what motor have you got in your 31? just a 30 NA? if so might be more worthwhile to save your coin and get a RB20DET and Gearbox done at the same time, this is providing you want to make it fast otherwise you wouldnt be converting it to manual i spose :D

turbo 30 would go better than a 20 for skids.

converted a mates 34 to manual for the cost of a halfcut ~3800. But we got a second motor out of it :D (and brakes, and turbo etc)

so your all saying that i should buy a engine and gear box? but wouldnt that cost more for parts and stuff to do that way?

yer just a standard 30 litre.

so if i wanted to change my engine over and gearbox what would i need to do that eg part?

Thanks

Thank you thats nice of you. iv been told that a 31 is easy to convert by other peeps. i want to get hands on with the project with a helping hand of course.

I bought a manual donor car (whole car) for my 31 at a cost of $600.

The work I did myself so it was free. Dsturbd is right at $1200 fitted. The rest of the car can be parted out and sold to help finance the cost of the conversion.

I turbocharged the 30 for an extra cost of $500 which was decompression plate, turbo & manifold, VL ECU and I relayed the fuel pump from the ECU.

So for $2000 you can have a turbo manual 30.

i done this in the uk i striped my s13 and got stuck with quite a few parts. my main concern is getting rid of the shell. everything else i can put in a box or something.

it sounds good tho. so you recon that it would be easier to buy another 31 and use the parts from that to do the job.

i still need to find someone that wants to help me do the project as i want to get hands on myself.

Thanks

Getting rid of everything is easy. There are guys who come and collect the car from your home free of charge as they get money for the scrap metal.

To buy a gearbox, clutch, pedal box, ECU, etc for the job is going to cost you more than picking up a second hand car and stripping it. The plus is having a second engine to work on turbocharging while you drive around picking up parts in your manual 31.

I would like to help you (ask anyone how much time I spend modding their cars for free) but at the moment I have a lot to do and will not be able to help for about a month to six weeks.

If you still are unable to get any help in this timeframe, let me know and I will help you to do the job.

Thank you i wont be able to do the job for atleast another 6-8weeks as i am moving house so i dont want toa start something and then have to move everything again. thats really kind of you to help me.

the problem is i have found a r31 and its got a yellow sticker so i was thinking of buying that its road legal and all it needs is a clutch. what ya think? buy the car and then move it when i move they only want $400 for it .

Thank you

Sounds good.

You can obtain a permit from the DPI that will allow you to move the car if it's defected or unregistered to a prescribed address. This will help you remain within the confines of the law and to save on towing fees.

Happy moving and don't forget to let me know if you still need the help.

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
    • I NEVER think about using a scissor jack unless there is absolutely no other alternative. f**king things are dangerous, annoying and stupid.
