I'm not dirty on Gup or the event, I had a ball, by far the best event I've entered.

I just know for next time how I'll play ball :)

And no Paul, didn't get a trophy or $$$, the respect it gained after murdering that many bigger cars all weekend was enough to make me happy, plenty of people showed their appreciation afterwards, it was very rewarding.

nah I was on the roof top (closer and better viewing) catching some cancer. Man it was hot that day. Did you find out who won the 0-200 sprint? the gsr evo looked like a good contender.

is that the gsr you're talking about?? thats mine :), i was flogging a few and in the line up they would change my lanes and put me up against some v8 drag monster, on sunday when gup was the starter for the drags he said to me at the start line that the guy next to me was gonna chop me, which i already sorta knew...

and PJ the announcer kept calling your car a skyline lol people in the crowd would start talkin shit how he doesnt know cars etc etc then some guy said its not a skyline its a s14 lol

Haha that's hilarious. Ahhh dear...

Gup asked me at the line whether my car was 4WD...

yeah silver and it had big chunky spoke chromies and was fairly low...

not sure what his sau name is. he was behind me for part of the sau putty cruise. And I think I saw you run him in the 0-200m sprint. He had a big fmic and a loud bov. you want to know what engine setup and boost he was running for bragging rights, correct?

Out of all the cars I was most impressed with yours in the Drag events. Some of the cars that you were lined up with had Monster Rear ends with huge rubber.Yet you were able to spank em.....Very impressive

hehe...its all good the G.U.P. is actually a joke 2rismo and i have. Stace leaned out the window at Jamboree and yelled out to him "Hey Guppy, where's our cheque and trophy...he yelled back "I don't owe you shit!" lol it was quite funny.

It was the booing as i was returning down pit lane after each win and the guys above the pits trying to spit on the car that was a real shame.

I lined up against the PROGPA VL on one run...he kept giving me the chopped scissors and yelling out how i was going to be served on toast etc...i slowed after winning so he was alongside me...he didn't even look over...GOLD!!!

not so much bragging rights as i spanked him hard lol just keen to know what it had, im guessing it was only a gts-t as he kept dropping the clutch and spinning the rears on the way to the start line.

haha those guys in the skyline flogging gup are pretty damn happy about it lol

haha The fatman aka FATGTR chopping the Guppy...bet he wasn't so happy when Johnny 'Bolt King' Hyde handed him his arse later that day.

Cheers mate, as happy as I am with the result, the last couple of days I've still been thinking about what I could have done on a set of ET Streets! Next year...

But I took it to the track exactly how I drive it on the street, still a huge amount of fun.

Still cut up about Bathurst maybe 20 years on?

They're the best wins, Paul. You never forget the memory of winning when someone talks smack and then you school them. Love it.

Poor V8 bogons/cavemen. I had a few times were I had the chop sign out the window as a couple of blown V8 Taxis would come around laughing on Friday & Saturday during the Powercruise. Was so good slowing down to see them come out of the smoke trail with priceless looks on their dials....(this may be why I had no 2nd gear left...lol). Like PJ I turned up with a set of street tyres and fueled up at the Shell down the road (true street car style). I think its about time a larger gathering of the non V8's turned up to one of these events and cleaned their attitudes and tanned their hides :spank: . I'm sure if we cop this attitude here, the boys in Qld would of had the same reception and would be willing to do a joint effort to teach the cave men a hard lesson. Imagine all the top prizes being taken out by 4 & 6 cylinders..... :D

Not wrong about the cavemen.Being in the crowd can be a little intimidating too. Most of these guys are Bikie looking, Covered in Tattoos, wearing the mandatory Ed Hardy T shirt. Look just like extras from a Mad Max movie.....So much for Human evolution improving with each generation

Top job wish i'd of been there, nothing better than kicking a bit of bogan arse. :D

i flogged my share of V8 monsters in the drags and cruise sessions but i had more fun flogging the imports in the cruise sessions cause they were more street orientated, 95% of the V8's on track had big top loaders, superchargers and carbys hanging out 2ft in the air, massive 10inch slick or bigger, open exhaust/no exhaust running c16 or similar so it isnt exactly a fair fight 90% were either "shed" machines (not street machines) dyno queens or trailer queens so being able to keep up or get 2-3cars pulled on you isnt that bad at all...

but yeah still fun to give it to the v8 boys :D i will be back again next year and the plan is to have another 50-80kw at least which should see me in with more of a chance and to flog the guys that flogged me. but the reality is that its powercruise, there will always be someone faster than you there - 500hp street rego'd cars vs 2000hp fully blown drag cars....

Read the rules last night for the drags, it says you are allowed to cut grooves into slicks if you want. Not that I'd bother but yeah, next year the radials will be left in the garage... ET Streets

    • Surely somebody has one in VIC. Have you asked at any shops?  Is this the yearly inspection or did you get a canary?
    • This is where I share pain with you, @Duncan. The move to change so many cooling system pieces to plastic is a killer! Plastic end tanks and a few plastic hose flanges on my car's fail after so little time.  Curious about the need for a bigger rad, is that just for long sessions in the summer or because the car generally needs more cooling?
    • So, that is it! It is a pretty expensive process with the ATF costing 50-100 per 5 litres, and a mechanic will probably charge plenty because they don't want to do it. Still, considering how dirty my fluid was at 120,000klm I think it would be worth doing more like every 80,000 to keep the trans happy, they are very expensive to replace. The job is not that hard if you have the specialist tools so you can save a bit of money and do it yourself!
    • OK, onto filling. So I don't really have any pics, but will describe the process as best I can. The USDM workshop manual also covers it from TM-285 onwards. First, make sure the drain plug (17mm) is snug. Not too tight yet because it is coming off again. Note it does have a copper washer that you could replace or anneal (heat up with a blow torch) to seal nicely. Remove the fill plug, which has an inhex (I think it was 6mm but didn't check). Then, screw in the fill fitting, making sure it has a suitable o-ring (mine came without but I think it is meant to be supplied). It is important that you only screw it in hand tight. I didn't get a good pic of it, but the fill plug leads to a tube about 70mm long inside the transmission. This sets the factory level for fluid in the trans (above the join line for the pan!) and will take about 3l to fill. You then need to connect your fluid pump to the fitting via a hose, and pump in whatever amount of fluid you removed (maybe 3 litres, in my case 7 litres). If you put in more than 3l, it will spill out when you remove the fitting, so do quickly and with a drain pan underneath. Once you have pumped in the required amount of clean ATF, you start the engine and run it for 3 minutes to let the fluid circulate. Don't run it longer and if possible check the fluid temp is under 40oC (Ecutek shows Auto Trans Fluid temp now, or you could use an infrared temp gun on the bottom of the pan). The manual stresses the bit about fluid temperature because it expands when hot an might result in an underfil. So from here, the factory manual says to do the "spill and fill" again, and I did. That is, put an oil pan under the drain plug and undo it with a 17mm spanner, then watch your expensive fluid fall back out again, you should get about 3 litres.  Then, put the drain plug back in, pump 3 litres back in through the fill plug with the fitting and pump, disconnect the fill fitting and replace the fill plug, start the car and run for another 3 minutes (making sure the temp is still under 40oC). The manual then asks for a 3rd "spill and fill" just like above. I also did that and so had put 13l in by now.  This time they want you to keep the engine running and run the transmission through R and D (I hope the wheels are still off the ground!) for a while, and allow the trans temp to get to 40oC, then engine off. Finally, back under the car and undo the fill plug to let the overfill drain out; it will stop running when fluid is at the top of the levelling tube. According to the factory, that is job done! Post that, I reconnected the fill fitting and pumped in an extra 0.5l. AMS says 1.5l overfill is safe, but I started with less to see how it goes, I will add another 1.0 litres later if I'm still not happy with the hot shifts.
    • OK, so regardless of whether you did Step 1 - Spill Step 2 - Trans pan removal Step 3 - TCM removal we are on to the clean and refill. First, have a good look at the oil pan. While you might see dirty oil and some carbony build up (I did), what you don't want to see is any metal particles on the magnets, or sparkles in the oil (thankfully not). Give it all a good clean, particularly the magnets, and put the new gasket on if you have one (or, just cross your fingers) Replacement of the Valve body (if you removed it) is the "reverse of assembly". Thread the electrical socket back up through the trans case, hold the valve body up and put in the bolts you removed, with the correct lengths in the correct locations Torque for the bolts in 8Nm only so I hope you have that torque wrench handy (it feels really loose). Plug the output speed sensor back in and clip the wiring into the 2 clips, replace the spring clip on the TCM socket and plug it back into the car loom. For the pan, the workshop manual states the following order: Again, the torque is 8Nm only.
