I got a "defect notice" last night which was for my HKS Pod not being boxed and coz I have blue parker lights. From what I can see their is no $$$ invovled, I just have to fix those 2 faults, get it checked by the RTA or someone and then im done.

St. Kilda is a danger area..i got a canary there too a few months back

yea i missed my turn for punt rd chapel area... so was about to do a u turn and then the rest is history...

so doesnt 500 for bov should strange or it s it normal for a bov? its an apexi twin chamber also...

oak

if u only got a stock intercooler then u can have the pod but it has to be a non oiled type.

What bov do u have? As for the $500 fine thats total shit, generally the epa guys are ok, its the cops that know shit all but think they are top shit!

hey inast,

well this is how it went..... i have the round apexi filter and hole in the middle of it..he said you can have either a ic or a filter......so does the car come with a i/c ..well its a turbo so i guess it does.....he goes ok then you cant have apexi filter and i/c ...but its not a fmic its just the stock one..doesnt matter i been doing this for 15 years blah blha .....but i thought i was right...

well i have the apexi twin chamber one ... and it was the epa guys 3 of them and they were being total diks i was being nice to start with ...then my attitude changed when he goes your gona get 500....the epa wont nice.....

anyone else copped 500 ...mayb they wont send it..dingers crossed..

also a nice white r33 in front getting the dik as i was...

Im usually one of the first to say "you know the risks...blah, blah", but that fine is crazy.

If they seriously wanted you to revert the car to std, then surely they must appreciate that the process is going to cost money and that a $500 fine is only going to hinder your ability to comply with their demands.

The fines for car related offences is crazy, what do they think the average persons wage is! A defect that if not fixed in say 3 weeks that attracts a fine, well that would sit ok with me, but then i suppose they dont get the coin from your suffering.

NSW seems to be a lot more cruizy then VIC, but it still concerns me to hear about benm, as he doesnt live too far from me.

Im looking for work at the moment and have to say, going back OS is my preference. Paying the taxes we do, the interest rates we do, and only get paid the wages we do, then to have EPA, RTA, Police fining car owners for mods to cars!

I drive anywhere up to 600kms a week and have never been booked or defected, and am 26. So i personally have no cause for complaint, but it still ticks me off to see that sort of fine issued... as it must only be a matter of time until im taken for a ride.

Rant, rant, rant maybe i need some more sleep!

...oh and im sorry to hear about your situation!

upset

also im one of those guys that cruises the car doesnt do burn outs run other cars that much...like if i was a dick head ok i wouldnt complain but i dont **** around ...... and they could tell i go i just got the car its pretty stock...they didnt give a ****..really pissed me off...... and i felt like hitting him and i dont really get violent over small things ...but now i guess i know how it feels for your hard earned money to go down the drain ....weepp weep :thumbdwn:

The rule on this is one aftermarket mod on the intake.

If you can be bothered, then you're well within your rights to fight them on that one.

As for the BOV, there are plenty of threads in here about the legalities of them.

The only legal BOV is a plumb-back.

...and i'm sure you were aware that your indicators didn't light up orange.

Hey,

were you the one with the big HKS sticker on your bonnet? If you are, i was the white R33 in front of you on st. kilda yesterday. Same shit got defected for my BOV, loose pod filter, boost controler, slapped with a 165 fine but no EPA though. I had a FMIC but didnt get defected for that, coppers asked me whether it was original i said hell YEAH...

Anyhow i saw heaps of lines got defected yesterday, i guess i was lucky not to get the 500 from the EPA guys.

yea bud that was me.....

I was gona come out and say hello , but i was trying to keep a low profile and hope that go easy on me.....so yea how come you didnt get done for your bov with a 500 fine....hmmm not happy....

I saw them putting the sticker on your car and i go hmm he must be oding so i didnt get out......the bald guy was such a dick head.....but i think the maltese looking guy looked at your car he seemed ok....

did you see the chik i was with? ahhahahahaa

i can understand a canary and maybe a $165 fine but $500 is farkin pathetic!!!!

sorry to hear oak but i would suggest you fight this as clearly mentioned you only have one intake mod!!!

good luck matey!

no mate, i was too busy trying to explain to him that my FMIC was original... hahahaha... i saw your car on my rear view, were the EPA guys there also? funny they gave you a hard time, espeacially with the 500 fine, i was using the turbosmart megasonic and i was by far the biggest and loudest BOV i had ever seen.

Yeah the bald guy was a total dik.... serious.... Must be your HKS sticker that drawed their attention from my car!

nah it must of been the bonnet pins...and gtr numba plates for sure....coz he made a comment like gtr... and yea he ***ed me up the most....with the indicator and with the filter...

and there is no point in fighting it, coz when i take it to vicroads or to get rwc ill say yea i had a fmic but now i got the stock one...so should be sweet...

But i wanna fight the 500 dollar fine for the bov bcoz its bullshit...anyone have idea's how to fight it? and if its worth it?

they were much ahrder on me...much!

OAK

Fight the intake mod coz as SKY031 said u are allowed one intake mod, the ic comes standard with the car, also sounds like the apparent guy with all the experience who got u didnt know shit, just like most of the cops out there when it comes to imports.

Bets bet is to talk check the australian design rules and epa rules and see if it says anywhere where it says the type of fine u will get. And then talk to a solicitor and then when the dick that dicked u gets questioned he will think twice before doing the same thing to someone else.

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
