Hi everyone,

Hope you can help me.

I have a R32 GTR that has 350awkw. I have a built engine and all the good stuff so far and its tuned by Racepace, I had a stock cooler in there but bought a second hand trust one to replace it. Ive straightened all fins and polished it as much as i can, also ive cleaned out the internal of the cooler removing any build up on the inside of oil and the like.

The standard cooler has a core of 600 x 295 x 60. The trust one has a core size of 590 x 290 x 70. I like the trust one because its chrome looking and being thicker should keep my intake temps down better than the standard one (though i know the standard ones work very well already, and can make good power).

The highest boost with the standard one fitted was 1.5bar and now with the trust one fitted it's 1.4bar with just the cooler swap, not touching anything else. Im yet to get the car tuned with the trust cooler fitted. So

Im wondering which cooler should i keep on?

In your opinions which one would be better?

Im thinking when the car goes in for a tune if it doesnt make 350kw again should i ask them to up the boost back to 1.5bar and see what happens?

Thanks for having a look.

Simple, look inside and see for yourself which has bigger/ more tubes. You hear all sorts of opinions about dispelling heat or cooling properties of the equalibrium of the fandangle but really, just look inside. If flow is what your after then you need more tubes of the same size or larger tubes with same amount of them or more. This is also where the thicker verses thin debate comes in because you may not get enough air flow to the radiator. if you go with say, a 100mm thick core. Having said that I haven't heard of too many people overheating with thick cores. At that power level what you have is good with the Trust I am sure, but you really won't know till you try so do it, put it on and tune it. Otherwise 6mths down the track you'll still be wandering.

^ i disagree with that.

Flow does not great equal cooling, sometimes it can actually hinder it. All depending on the scenario.

Sounds like the factory GTR core perhaps needed a bit of a flush/clean?

Either/or really. They are so near in spec and id imagine cooling/flow wouldn't be majorly different either - so a retune is probably not even required

Absolutely, the faster the air travels through the cooler the less time the cooler has to actually cool it down. The trust cooler of the dimensions given is probably a slightly better bet for flow though. Cooling I would have to say would be near on identical. What size is yours Nismoid ? Have you been tempted to try the 100mm ?

mine i think is 70mm thick - i will be changing it shortly to 80mm or 85mm i believe, but that's it really. No need to go bigger... plus i can't :)

My cooler is large, about the size of a radiator being a GTS-R, different spot. Sits directly infront of the radiator :ninja:

So it has plenty of surface area - no need for massive thickness.

Yes the cooler uses the same piping. but ive got HKS hard piping kit on there.

And the standard cooler was cleaned out and all the fins straightened about 6 months ago so it is clean. Checked it when i pulled it off and was oil free in the inside of the standard one.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
