plus wireless is shite... borrowed a mates "state of the art" Netgear + D-Link setup and the speeds I was getting are abysmal. We hooked the xbox up to the PC and it took 2 hours to transfer a 500mb divx from my room to the room next door.

Wireless are for yuppies and ppl that wanna look like they know the shiznitz of technology atm, if you want a decent fast connection you can't go past a 10/100 ethernet cable connection.

Microwave satellites on rooftops is another thing tho, oldschool and very effective high speed WAN.

Ive transfered similar files from my pc to my laptop in bugger all time! So im no yuppie biatch!!! :)

:)

I aint that big of a nerd

you're an engineer, course you are :)

haha... looks like funky don't know how to setup things properly. Anyhow, its better to STREAM it anyhow.. works fine.. we had it working sweetly at my old house..

yes i'd love to be able to stream via wireless from my house while my xbox is in the car about 60km's away.

Besides xboxes have a 10mbps network car din em so there's a bottleneck there anyways.

Wireless's overdone CRC redundancy checks, security protocols etc all tax the transfer rate. I'd wait a year before I invest in a proper wireless infrastructure... in the meantime I'll just use company equipment (which I have to test anyways).

Oh and yes, I'm working with Foxtel's new interactive cable programme, which also employs wireless to interact with PC's so we gotta mess about with a fair few wireless devices and protocols.

Anyways, back on topic... denham can you leech sum shite for me? :P

Leech what??

Its gonna be alot slower than my current optus cable coz download video files etc most time i can get around 200k/sec.

Initial cost of asdl is alot more expensive than cable to. Its gonna cost me around $430, Modem $205, setup fee $143 and first months fee $79. Optus cable was only $99 install/setup fee and free modem.

Funky how much u recon i can sell my cornerstone cm200 cable modem for??

high frequency sound modulation, the higher the frequency the faster it moves (same as light and other waves). regular dial up modems modulate the audible sound range because up until recently that's all the exchanges could handle. If an exchange is upgraded to ADSL it can also handle higher frequencies.

my wireless always craps out on me..

im not sure if its the intel in my laptop, or the belkin card in my desktop, but im pretty sure its the belkin..

it really annoys me.. coz i cant download big files without using a downlaod program..

Will the speed of my connection vary if use a double adapter from a phone wall connection in one room and then run a 15m extention wire to my room for the connection as there is no other line i can use in the upstairs of my house?

i doubt it... but if you get slow speeds then try it without the extension. Another option ( if its a ethernet modem, is two run the 15m in cat5 instead of phoneline. )

Paul.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
