Driving home from work today on the eastlink freeway with the aircon on, the compressor belt must have snapped during the trip.

I did hear a noise while driving but didn't think much of it at the time.

Once I got off the freeway though I noticed some smoke coming out from under the hood. I pulled over and opened the bonnet, and it seemed smoke was coming from where the compressor would sit. It smelled like electrical wire overheating or similar.

Have I killed my compressor?

Where in Melbourne can I get this looked at and fixed?

is it easy enough to just put on the compressor belt myself?

I thought if I try that and see if the aircon actually still works, that way i don't have to fork out cash just yet.

Any good places out there in Melbourne that have experience with replacing skyline air-con compressors?

what can happen is the clutch gets stuck on and fries it with the constant turning.. it stops cutting out and can fry the belt, the clutch, or the wiring.

removing the compressor isnt hard, easily done from underneath, but you'll need an a/c dude to remove the gas and regas it.

i have an a/c compressor that is in excellent condition, removed it because im making a track car..

i can send it to you tomorrow if you'd like... $50 posted.
