nice power curve ruby....

Wanna get it much better. Going to take it to either Shaun or Martin and get them to interpret whats going on in that upper part of the power curve. Smooth things out a bit.

The car has been awesome to drive since I did the manual conversion. The improvement in power shows. Now I need to get it onto the track for some fun ... not on the streets kids :P

standard rb25 computer having a fit because the the boost is set higher than factory... its been doing it ever since i got my boost controller. one day its fine the next it has a fit.

im gonna go book it in for a tune up soon and hopefully with some timing it will smooth out...

i dont remember my car doing any of that and i had the standard ECU in there as well and boosted it up to 13.5psi.....

something else could be the cause of that as well maybe??

I do still have my auto ecu in there, which might be the problem, but it was doing it when the car was still automatic too.

Im not that fussed really, just waiting for some $$ to buy some goodies and put my 30 bottom end in to it.

fair enough.....get a manual ecu and chuck it in there and see if that makes a difference mate.....that thing looks like it will take some getting used to for normal day to day driving lol....

The curves are exaggerated (possibly due to boost hike and/or other mods) but typical of a standard ECU, it is tuned to pass emission requirements at certain revs.

I'm surprised others with factory ECU's haven’t commented that they feel similar power delivery, as its as obvious as dogs balls whenever you drive a standard skyline.

Its more so the fact that its an auto ECU. My Auto stagea has a similar dyno graph. As soon as the boost is increased the ECU puts in extra fuel and retards the timing :) Manuals don't seem to have the problem as bad.

i will try and find a dyno sheet scan it and then post it up here.....coz mine was a much much smoother curve when i had the standard ecu in.....i think the auto ecu acts differently to the manual ecu....and the manual ecu gives you better power delivery

Krishy u think if u get a nistune with an auto ecu that it would have a much better power curve or not?

well my mate put the car on the dyno at his work on friday and we had a little mess around with bits and pieces.

turns out that mine was the worst case of rb25 ecu shitting itself that hes ever seen ahaha. the timing was up at 20 to start off with, we took it back to 15 (standard), did a whole bunch of runs on different boost settings and that doesn't seem to make a difference whatsoever.

it seems that every time the car makes boost, regardless of what psi, the ecu retards the timing which makes the boost spike up to 15psi in the mid range, then drop down to set pressure up top where the fueling continues as normal.

we played around with the afm a bit, and didn't really get anywhere. next step for me is to borrow a few things, swap em over and see if it makes a difference.

my afr's were also quite lean throughout the range... still in the safe margin but i might have to look in to upgrading my fuel system soon.

I need to get my hands on:

s1 rb25 manual ecu

s1 rb25 afm

rb25 knock sensor (just in case its not working properly coz that would cause ecu problems)

hopefully the problem is there somewhere. I know that swapping these things isnt going to completely cure the problem, but its better then trying to drive it as it is... power delivery is all over the place :rant:

i would think that it would all depend on the tune of the Nistune mate....as its a chip that goes on the board it will all end up depending on the tune.....and as i have never seen a nistune at work etc i cant really comment on the nistune...

Might be able to lend it to you marko.....but will be needing them back mate....you will however need the front cover of the ecu....also have a afm that you can borrow as well mate

    • So, this shouldn't be such a mission, but there were a few tricks so I thought I'd post up a DIY for it. This was on a Q50 Red Sport but I doubt any other V37 model is very different (maybe just less steps for the intake heat exchanger hoses) I pulled the radiator out to flush it because the car was running hot at the track, but obviously the same steps apply for changing a radiator for any reason including an upgrade. If you are removing the radiator, you of course need to drain and refill, so have 5+ litres of blue coolant ready. You don't need to drain the intake heat exchanger to remove the radiator but depending on your plans you may need a couple of litres for that as well. You will also need something to deal with the auto transmission lines, I used 2x 8mm rubber caps on the radiator side, and a short length of 8mm pipe on the car side.....unless you can block these lines quickly you will loose AT fluid and it may be enough to hurt the transmission if you don't refill it. Other than that....lets go... "First, jack up your car". Yes really, and put it safely on stands. If you are not confident doing that you need to give this job to a mechanic

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
