Thought I'd post a couple of pics. My car has now had all visible rust removed with lots of new steel put in it's place. These pics are at guide coat stage, and it is smoooooth. Near all imperfections gone. New steel welded in around the boot, that strip that holds the boot rubber in place.Should be finished in two weeks. New colour: Bondi Bleach. New number plates: BLEACHED AS

The job so far. Also all other bits like flared guards, light surrounds and garnish are gloss black. Pick it up on Tuesday and should be assembled by Thursday. Then it's off to Bali, me that is for 6 nights.

i dunno man i

d [refer to see you do an engine swap with an RB rather than a v8. but you know that's just my taste. i have an RB20 in my silvia (around the same weight) and i tell you... it goes hard as hell!!!

Hi Drew, yeah I still want to swap something into it. I just know the L28 isn't going to give me the HP I want. It has to be boost or V8. V8 seems the easiest as there's no injection to set up and I have the go ahead from the Dep of Planning and Infrastructure here in W.A. I love V8s' and love me coupe, so? That 210 at Jollys' has the RB30 in it, now if I could get the relevant bits and pieces, mounts, gbox crossmember, I'm assuming it's had a RB box in it and that's why it's gone. Plus any special looms that have been made up, this could alter my thinking. I just want easy or easiest.

ANYBODY WANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT FOR ME? I pay by the hour. Message me if doable please.

Geez Ricky

I don't think a V8 would be a good idea mate.(IMHO)

L28 with tripple webbers would sound so cool with plenty of HP and be in keeping with the rest of the package.

Failing that stick with an RB20 or 25.

Looks great so far :D

Andrew, I actually have a friend who is trying to sell me a L28 turbo set up.54/P90 Microtech computer, sequential injection, brand new ball bearing turbo( large), motor is fully rebuilt, and comes with plumbing but to suit a Z. It's 8.5 compression and running low boost. Has already had 240hp@TW and is apparently good for up to 280 + some. Problem is the price, he wants my motor and another 8 grand, this is the installed price but it's just a bit exy. Would be nice to stick with a high HP old school motor.

Todat I'm going to compression test that 308, he wants $800 for it.

I'll get the front springs cut to lower it a bit more soon. Oh and of course put the bumper back on. It's not a show car paint job, once buffed it'll look heaps better as it has a few blemishes here and there but it was noly $2500 and a lot of new steel went in to replace the rust and my patch ups. Overall I'm pretty happy with the outcome and it is the first car my mates painted in about 8 years.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
