Hey fellas didn't know where to post this so pardon me if it's in the wrong section. Well as the title stated tryina install an electric temp gauge and there seems to be one wire which i don't get which is the orange wiring from it.

Yellow: lights/illumination

Black: ground

Red: +12v (power)

Orange: 12v *RTN

the orange wire is what i don't get it says anything that tap it into anything gives out 12v but like whenever i connect the orange it doesn't function properly. What the orange wire is meant to do is bring back the needle to 0 whenever you turn the car off. If someone could tell me where i could tap the wire into that would be great.

*i tried reading the translation thingo on the net and the translated jap to english didn't seem to make much sense*

-thanks.

orange is usually a dimmer, so when you flick on the lights the gauge dims so its not overly bright at night.

what brand gauge is it? is it one of those black/smoke faced gauges?

if it is, connect it to the dimmer switch which should be on your dash somewhere.

orange is your ignition/accessories wire. u need to tap it into a wire which shows 12V on the multimeter when the ignition is switched on and will show 0V with ignition off. cigarette lighter is a perfect example of ignition source for your orange wire. it pay to have a multimeter or test light handy
