Traction Control & Engine Light Coming On - R34 Gtt

Recommended Posts

Just recently my "TCS off" + "slip" light has been coming on randomly, as well as the engine light.

Sometimes it's when I've first started the car, sometimes it just comes on randomly when I'm driving. I can clear them sometimes by turning the engine off and on again but not always. If the traction control was faulty that wouldn't be so bad but the engine light worries me :P

It does seem to idle a bit rougher when the 3 lights come on.

Should I be worried? HELP!

The first Skidpan i took mine to, this started happening half way through the day. what it ended up being was the battery negative terminal loosened itself off and got a bad connection hapopening. this brought on "engine light" "abs" "tcs" and "slip". it ended up completely deestroying my battery internaly. Had to miss half the day and roll start it till i got a new battery

Could be the same, or it could be something more serious. But still worth investigating the battery I'd say :)

Hey mate, mine was doing that a while back and it was a wheel speed sensor. If you take it to someone with a scan tool they should be able to tell you.

And now it's just started doing it again too.... bummer!

could be your coil pack as well.....

could be your coil pack as well.....

it does do it with couil packs when they are on the way out, i had a faulty coil pack and it would sometimes cut in and out even for half a second and you wouldnt notice and then this would happen until you turned it off and on again..worth checking them

  • 3 months later...

ok just a follow up on this... did an oil change and thought I'd check out the plugs/coil packs but I couldn't get the long bit of plastic off without pulling a million other things off so i gave up, stupid bitch of a thing..

Anyway... as well as an oil and filter change, I cleaned and re-oiled my pod, which was FILTHY.. and the problem has gone :P

It's really bizarre and I don't know why, but I'm happy that I don't seem to need coil packs after all!

hey dude, in case the problem comes back, it has been well covered:

to read the fault code follow this:

does/did it make a wrx style popping when it failed? this all happened to mine, haven't bothered to fix it yet tho. can't quite afford new coilpacks (ie: splitfires)

yeah "popping" at higher revs

but at idle more just really rough or jerky... it would sound like it was running on 5 cylinders. Or like an old 70's VW haha

Thanks for the links, I'll check em out. Hopefully it doesn't come back!

    • Have you done the Ignition Sync Wizard in the AEM software?
    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
