Hey guys, Sorry to be a pain but i've looked using the search option and can't really find a definite answer...

I was thinking of installing a r33 gtr fmic onto my r33 gts-t, but im just wondering if they bolt straight on and the piping goes through the same holes? I used to have a fmic with the pipes going through the bodywork and cops told me to plug the hole up so i'm definately trying to avoid cutting holes.

Also when i got a SMIC to send it to the EPA tester i put on an r34 smic. I'm not planning on changing the turbo anytime soon and was thinking, is it even worth spending extra money on a bigger intercooler when the r34 smic is apparently good for flow up to 220rwkw? Will a bigger intercooler even give me much more power?

Cheers...

A bigger intercooler wont directly give you more power. You might notice a tiny bit more power under boost, but at near stock power levels, its almost negligible. Usually bigger intercoolers go hand in hand with more boost. This it because more boost = more heat and thus a greater tendency to experience detonation. If you were to install a bigger intercooler then have your engine tuned, the better cooling will allow your tuner to add more ignition timing because the air is colder and easier to work with. BTW, more advanced ignition timing = more power.

So bigger intercooler with no tune = tiny gain.

bigger intercooler with an aggressive tune = some gains.

I/Cs are mainly a safety thing, and their performance benefit is a (great) side effect.

If it's power your after, the first thing I'd do is an exhaust, a good dump and front pipe with a decent sounding cat-back all in 3'. Bring our that glorious RB sound, then look for more boost and a tune is a necessity after that...

As for the GTR FMIC fitting the GTS-T, I don't own a skyline so i can't help you, someone else will tho...

Everything said, big dardy intercoolers look f**king sick peeping through the bumper :P:ninja:

Sorry to be a pain

Not at all bro, that;s what this site is for!

No it dosnt just fit sorry and holes need to be cut

also the fan blades may need to be chopped too

keep the r34 smic its good for a fair amount more then 220kw thats when the stock R33 one maxes out mate

cheers for the reply you guys! greatly appreciated! Guess that'll save me a bit of money then, not needing a front mount. Although yes FMICs look good, and my front bar looks a bit lonely since i took the other one out :P

I have a full 3" exhaust, no idea what the dump is like though.. I'll be boosting it to 10-11 psi soon and with a tune from Dr.Drift hopefully i'll get between 180-190rwkw, that will suffice for now, until the mod bug overcomes my allergy to spending bucketloads of money lol..

a FMIC is a good idea

a SMIC is pointless for anything but standard everything

with more boost and an exahust the core is useless after one boost run

it will be heatsoaked and will not do anything useful

this means on the street the first run is ok as the core is cold

then after that its mega hot and remains hot due to a tiny core and its location (this is known as heatsoak)

so yes you can make 220rwkw with the SMIC

but put it on the street, thrash it

pull over and feel the core, i bet it burns your hands / too hot to touch (aka heatsoaked)

do the same with a FMIC and the hot side is hot, the cold side should be stone cold always

Never happened to mine

Maybe i havent found the loud pedal yet lol

trust me the R34 SMIC is a good up grade for what your looking for I no plenty of people that have done it without issue

carnt be that bad as i run constant 14.1 14.2 passes all weekend at santa pod on stock smic

Hmm, i guess i'll see how it behaves after putting in my turbotech MBC.. If it's not playing nice, off to just jap i go to get the cooler that uses stock piping holes. Screw going back to the piping going through the body work, sooo much pain getting that fixed at christmas before an EPA tester deadline... Damn you pettett! It was a canery too so after my last week of work when i couldnt get it fixed i wasnt allowed to drive it anywhere >.<

Put on a FMIC. One of the Just Jap return flow is good value for the cash.

Then keep your factory airbox = EPA legal.

Problems solved :P

Installation vs cost vs legalities - unfortunately a GTR core is not a viable option when there are "ready-to-go" kits off shelf.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
