hi guys i searched on here for posts on how to clean or re clear your front indicators but couldnt find anything, so apologies if this has already been asked

i bought a 32 gtst with front clear indicators, now the car was unregistered and been sitting outside in the sun for 3.5 years, so the front indicators have faded a light yellow :) i was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and if there is any way to clean them to make then look clear again

any and all help much appreciated

cheers

jeremy

Give them a good polish.. being a 32 i assume they are glass not plastic.. if so find some good glass polish.. I have autoglym that I use on my windows every so often.. gets rid of alot of gunk.

Do it by hand or if you have it a angle grinder with a polishing pad or something similar..

No. This is what happens when you buy cheap shitty china brand stuff with no quality control. The plastic used in the clear indicators has no resistance to UV penetration (we've had guys come into the shop after a month with cloudy indicators). Good quality plexiglass indicators are more expensive and won't discolour.

thanks for the info guys, unfortunately they came on the car and it was sititng in the sun for like 3 years guess thats why they faded, and no other set came with the car so will just have to deeal with it until i buy another set, anywhere to reccomend good replacement set that wont fade?

My headlights on the 34 were really yellow and I had tried just about everything (plastic polish, buffing etc) and came across this stuff called Glassylite. It's a little pricey but comes in a kit with different chemicals, sandpaper etc, I used this stuff and it has a final sealant you apply to the headlight (or in your case the indicator) which seals and protects it from UV. I must say I did this over 6 months ago and my headlights came up real nice and have stayed clear would definitely recommend this stuff.

Got it for about $40 from Auto-One in WA, not sure of the equivalent in other states.

Best of luck

The plastic on factory headlights gets a sort of top layer coat when it reacts over the years with UV and other elements. You can get rid of this by cutting it with a fine grit polish like AutoGlym and then polishing it.

The plastic in the aftermarket indicators don't just react on the outer exposed surface, they react all the way through. No saving that.

    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.

    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
