very pset atm, it seems that my lifters are getting flat spots they are very noisy!!! My car doesnt even have 100k on it yet! Has any one ever had worn out lifters on their 34? If so what is the most inexpensive path to take? Also my coil packs are gone and now my clutch is going!!!!!

oil level looks fine, i have started getting the problem after i put in an oil cooler?? Could the oil cooler take away too much oil and starve the head of oil?

make sure the lines are round the right way (correct oil flow). In all my years i have never had issue with worn lifters in R34, but i see the cooler installed wrong all the time.

the centre hole with thread is return the outside hole is output.

went and sought some advice from a trusted and experienced skyline specialist in melbourne they are doumbfounded as well by the noise it is making....BUT they did notice quite a strong dint in the oil sump. They are thinking that the knock may have been hard enough to damage the sender = lack of oil to head, this is backed up by the fack my motul 300v has bubbles in it, any thoughts people?? im getting real nervous

Sounds like you got some issues mate. Frothing of oil is exremely bad.

Was the dent in the sump before the cooler went on? If so, why the problems now?

General rule of thumb is if you change something and then a problem occurs, look to what you just changed

maybe cracked oil pickup. Hard to tell without having the car to do some tests. Did the shop think the dent was big enough to contact the pickup? if so drop the sump asap and at least check it over..

performance shop i went to are under the impression that the sump can not be removed easily, need to take out the engine? big dollars for that

its not hard. Drop the front crossmember. the engine just needs to be supported from above with something like a engine brace. We have done in chassis rebuilds this way. In and out in half a day.

In fact we did wheezys (sau nic) car this way.

use one of these to support engine.

something new.....when i first start the car there is NO TICKING. it takes some slight throttle for the ticking to start?? WTF IS HAPPENING??

First of all you need to STOP running the car for starters, because you’re probably causing irreversible damage by continuing to run/drive it. Find the source of the issue, don't muck around when it comes to oil pressure problems.

Then drop the sump and find out what's happening with the pick-up. If the sump had a dint before, and all you have done is installed the cooler, then is sounds like you haven't added additional oil to accommodate the cooler. I personally would be checking the pick-up anyway just to be safe.

You can't just wack the cooler on, it will simply pump oil into the cooler/lines and the sump will end up with nothing in it, or very low, hence the ticking progression with throttle.

hi james , thanks for that info but cooler has been installed by a very trusted mechanic, specialises in track cars so im hoping he considered this. Also my oil level is fine and oil pressure in the block is fine so i dont think it would be due to lack of oil which still does not explain the bubbles in the oil. But i agree the less driven the better and im taking it in tommorow to attach a pressure gauge to the head and check oil pressure in the head, if that is low then we will check oil pickup.

I am unsure who you have been talking to but I don't know how you are going to do a 'pressure' test on the cylinder head when it is splash lubricated.

I hope you are going to be getting it towed to the workshop also. Any driving will possibly ruin it.

The frothing of the oil is usually caused when the oil lines are arse about.

You want to make sure you ask the workshop very specific questions if the engine is cactus. If they have fitted it incorrectly then they are liable for any damages. If they did fit it correctly then there has to be another reason.

If they are still unsure of what the noise is and everything is fitted correctly, then take a GOOD video of the noise and post it. I should be able to tell you what it is.

Also, if the ticking noise comes only once revved, then it's most likely not going to be lifters

We just finished rebuilding a rb26 for an SAU member... a reputable workshop fitted the oil filter relocator lines ass about...... every shop can make mistakes dont take anything for granted best bet is to check the line routing.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
