Hey ZEUS,

I dont think the '32 Gearbox will fit in a '33.

How much power are you putting out? its a fair bit isn't it? Maybe the factory box isn't strong enough?

Most skyline 'boxes will 'bite' you sometimes when changing around 3'rd and 4'th... my 'R and my old Gtst have/are doing it.

Hope that helps.

Christian

R32 GTR after 2/92 ie. the pull type clutch will fit.

Getting a bit long in the tooth though and may have similar issues to yours.

Try Redline Lightweight Shockproof.

Worked in 2 GTR boxes of mine and 1 300ZXTT box. Solved the crunchy shift straight away.

Not cheap at about $28Litre and you need around 4 litres.

If it works great and cheaper than o/haul

Cheers

if it is the gearbox....should i be better to get a secondhand one or get my current gearbox overhauled??? i also heard that if a gear is broken..dont bother fixing it coz its too expensive...is that true?

also its going to cost me like $250 just for the gearbox specialist to see whats wrong with it before i even get a quote on the gearbox to fix it.

i just dont wanna spend like 12-20K on a HKS sequencial gearbox :)

why the hell not??? :) :)

with my 'box i just put up with it, it never got worse. My GTR doesn't do it very often tho.

You'd probably be best getting your current one overhauled as you can never tell the absolute condition of a 2nd hand unit.

How bad is the crunching? or does it just 'bite' every now and then?

well basically i dont have that kinda money for a gearbox..:):D:D

4th gear crunches all the time if i shift from 3rd to 4th at a normal shift rate. So what i have to do is slowly shift 4th gear in...(that means like the revs dropping all the way down to 1000rpm...sometimes the car even stalls)

i think the gearbox has had enough of my abuse....

Have the same problem in my 32 GTR box. Have just learned to double the clutch from 3rd to 4th which stops the grinding. It becomes instinctive after a while. Better than $2K overhaul at the moment. You could also try changing from 3rd to 5th then back the 4th which also works for me. Look into an OS Giken crossgear set. Would love to get it myself.

R33 and 32 trans both are the same. Only difference is the push and pull system on the clutch design. I personally wouldnt do what others do and convert it. After all it just is not the same as original and complicates matters later.

What I have done is taken the whole internal out of a 32 box. (comes out pretty much 1 piece and put it onto the r33 box housing. Rumours are that 32 internals have stronger gears or better syncro in 2nd and 3rd? but i cant confirm this. Btw, this is my cars 3rd box since I have purchased it.

yeah exactly what i have to do too...but i find it easier to double clutch from 3rd to 4th gear then going from 3rd to 5th then back to 4th.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
