Watcha mean a setup....? And no I don't work for Regency :/

Luke was your car modified? They told me I could put coilovers and stuff on if I wanted to, provided I got them engineered. I thought coilovers were illegal!

if you change anything from the manufacturers specifiacations its not legal but if you get things engineered then your ok.

Chad has a list of things he has had engineered on his 32 so probably better to talk to him

the exception of a few things, like exhausts as long as it is the required DB level and pod filters as long as they are secure

i know of a few people that have been pinged for pod filter not secure......yet they had 1 bracket in place holding the pod filter....according to the police it needs 2 or more brackets to be secure....and according to regency well the more people you ask the more answers you get :/

I have never had anything on any of my cars engineered, I've never even spoken to an engineer.

Its only one bracket required as far as I know.

I've been through regency many times and aslong as its not a floppy dick they dont mind lol

one bracket doesnt really hold the pod down.....ie there is still some movement which you might or might not get picked on by the cops.....having 2 brackets then there is no movement at all

Try and find it, you wont cos i wouldn't have said that. My 26 conversion is Regency approved but an Engineer isn't needed for my conversion, just a simple regency inspection.

As the title states I went to Regency for the first time today to get a vehicle inspection on a 32 I've just converted to an RB25DET Neo. I went in trembling and shaking expecting the worst, but came out feeling that the department is understanding and decent, with a necessary focus on vehicle safety.

The vehicle requires a few bushes replaced and the reversing lights are faulty, but each thing they listed was a fair safety thing which I'm glad they pointed out.

So what's the big Regency fear I read about on the forums??

Wait til you have a seriously modified toy and a bad inspector. I've had some great Regency experiences (as great as a defected car can be), but I've also had some hellish ones.

Some of the inspectors are just plain c*nts, to put it lightly.

The inspector told me that ALL coilovers are legal provided they have written engineering documentation to say that the ride height they are set at is safe. They don't have to be welded at that height and can remain adjustable (I asked him that) but if you are caught with them at the wrong height you will get a defect.

He said people are allowed to put them in and get them engineered at a height suitable for street use, but can then dump them on the ground for track use as long as they are returned to street height before leaving the track.

Unfortunately as true as that might be for him, some of the other inspectors will enjoy f*cking you over on it, and other won't.

And police will definitely fist you if you have your car 1mm too low (had a friend done for 2mm too low lol).

Just like I went through with my old Silvia with all rose jointed adjustable arms and had no issue. My mate that went through 2 months later was failed for them and had to pull them all out. Just depends on your luck.

and they are cool as - just normal people

act like a know it all tosser and they treat you like one.

i remember while getting an inspection a lad with a 180 which had a fiberglass bumper all cracked and munched up came rolling in, ignored the inspector and tried to get it up on the ramps.

the inspector gave him a stern "hey did i tell you to do that? No!"

all that was required was a "sorry" (as yes i have done it once too) and they are cool about it.

this young shinny jean, white jumper, sideways cap, teen bum fluff moustache wearing schoolie gave a narky reply in a more aggressive tone than what he was given with a few additional curse words.

when the car was up on the hoist, every small defect was picked up by the various other inspectors who gave the original inspector advice on what may be deemed roadworthy.

i suspect years later this lad is still trying to get his defects off.

    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.

    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.  
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
