...Shannon doesnt insure a daily car...

PS: Daily Car = one and only car regardless of how many times you drive a week. The other condition to fulfil if you have 2 cars is you can only drive the insured car for 2 or 3times a week if I remembered correctly.

I thought Shannons were advertising that they will insure your daily drive these days...

I believe AAMI owns just cars, not suncorp. But they won't insure anything modified/import, they'll just direct you to just cars.

justcars is a subsidiary of AAMI who is owned by suncorp. AAMI also underwrite for other insurers like bingle and shannons.

suncorp also own GIO, NSW's equivalent of AAMI. they own heaps of other insurance companies as well, they're pretty much one of the big players in this industry.

Oh right... I forgot to mention its my first car which contributes to them rejecting me too.

Shannons , fully comp , $500 excess , $744pa , paid monthly @ $62pm dd, agreed value $16.5K , 1998 R34GT-T , only mods exhaust.

f**k thats alright.

Just cars however will insure anything, but they will charge more than AAMI. It was about half as much to insure my shitbox XF with AAMI than it was with just cars

INCORRECT... AAMI and Just Cars and Shannons and Vero and APIA are all part of Promina... which is owned by Suncorp. AAMI(just like NRMA) does not insure grey imports. Trust me I am a shareholder.

Brandon - I'll scan my certificate for you. PS how old are you and your driving history these will all affect you

When stating your premiums you should probably mention your suburb too. Mine's Toowoomba. Thus my premiums are typically around $100-200 cheaper than Brisbane.

I think im going to go with shannons now. Its my daily driver and they didnt have a problem with that, however this sound stupid but i had to convince the guy that i was a car enthusiest believe it or not!

I told him a skyline didnt just fall into my lap and had to tell him i was a paid member of SAU and was restoring a HQ Monaro before he would proceed! Hows that for odd!

He reckons they take each car case by case so if he didnt think you were an enthusiest as they tout on the adds then they may insure one skyline but not the next one.

They are around the $800 mark which is $600 less than LSV, so i know what im doing now!

I'm 28 this year living in Brisbane south (Sunnybank Hills). As mentioned before, this is my first car and its a GTR. Shannon's excuse is they would like more driving history for a car like a GTR to be insured which is fair enough. Doesnt really bother me since Justcar's premium isnt bad at all.

Like what Donna said, Shannon insure car on a case by case basis so theres nothing much I can do about it.

Yeah Shannon's are cool like that. Have you given Suncorp a call or AMP? There is another group I know of (Recoveries shenanigans).... can't think of their name.

First car does make it hard BUUUUUT you have been driving all these years ie had a license, no accidents etc?

Atleast you guys have a few choices when its comes to insurers, no one apart from JustCar wants to insure me, i pay 3000 a year premium, 3000 excess, insured when i was 18 and its a R33 GTR.
Just your average broke,18 year old, unemployed GTR owner.

So how does that work? Confused. My insurance is similar for the GTR but to be expected.

with just cars, 26 only 2 speeding fines in 9 years of driving.. im paying $844pa with $400 excess agreed value of 14,500 (i have no idea why the agreed value is soo massive but ohwell, its on the policy) its pretty much a stocker series 2 r33.

so to the OP, definitely go have a yarn with your insurance mob, your paying waaaayyy too much

Congrats! It pays to shop araound.

Sometimes, they'll just assume that you'll stay with the same insurance company and then start to creep up the premium.

If anyone is in the health industry, Guild Insurance will also give out a policy to cover a grey import - and the premium is very competitive with Shannons or Just Car. Guild regards health workers (or even children of health workers) as being statistically lower risk.

Ok, so at least it's not just me who's been hit.

Was insured with Famous since '06 and my GT-V has only attracted a couple of dollars increase up till last year.

This year due to some changes (within Famous) my full comp went up almost $300!! For an NA!

Have since contacted JustCar and their quote is a lil more realistic.

ahhhhhh yeah, Famous suck. My policy started out at $550 per year, and then the second year, they wanted me to pay $1100 a year :P:D for a 4cyl turbo.

They said my Australian delivered car was a hektik import, and thus had to double in cost. I of course told them to jam it.

    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
