Found these pics on a mate's Facebook page, from Malaysia

A31 Cefiro with an R33 dash and centre consoles.

Not sure how much rewiring / piping is needed for the air con and other controls..

Might do a little bit of research on this....I'd assume this means the R32 dash can also fit.

Pic's attatched

You could fit any dash really. They're all going to need some sort of modification and the other thing to consider is how well it will line up with the shape of the door cards.

FWIW I've seen a cefiro dash fitted into an R31 skyline, but i doubt anyone is going to rush out and put an R31 dash in their cef/laurel

Are there any more pics? I want to see how the door cards and pillars lined up.

True! I helped a friend fit an R33 dash into an S13. And another fit an R34 dash and seats into an S14. They bolted up fine. The only thing that didn't line up was the door. But they were track only cars so we didn't bother putting door panels back in.

I have also seen a Maxima with a complete R33 interior, not sure how much effort it took.

Here are some pics of r32 dashes in a31s. You can see how the door cards and pillars fit. (or don't fit.)

I found the pics on these websites:

hahahahhahahah - well at least the poorly fitting R33 dash solves the cracked passenger airvent surround!!!! amirgiht?amiright?

....wait..

..

...am i still allowed to make that joke?

Do you have pics of an r33 dash in a cef? I'm curious to see exactly how bad it fits..

Wonder how much would need to be done behind the dash? (ie brackets, wiring looms, etc)

Esentially it could be done with a complete R32 halfcut (cut well past A pillars).....even if shit like fuse box needed swapping, pull it out of the halfcut.

no offence to the malays..

but i doubt there would be THAT much custom work...

they Msians don't seem too concerned with that sort of crap... especially on such an "old car"

chances are the dash is put in there - but there would be no working aircon, no functioning speedo / odo other dials.. no driving / fog lights, etc etc..

putting an R33 dash into A31 would be easy. 3M tape... few screws here n there - easy..

...getting dash looms, electrics and switches to WORK and communicate from a mid 90's skyline platform to a late 80's platform would be another thing all together i imagine...

one of the nicer dash conversions would be the A31 that ironchef is trying to sell at the moment.. it's a C33 dash with flock trim.. analog clock and digital climate control.

nic personally i think that you should buy it btw - i reckon you'd love it - your love for cefiro should not be stamped out just yet!!!!

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
