lol in nz ive got off a ticket because a cop tried to tell me i was speeding but the valentine one said he had nothing on me so i asked him to see the gun . he saw the radar and told me to slow down and left

In my experience they don't treat you any worse - but that depends on how silly you were being and what your attitude is like.

I copped my first speeding fine in years a few weeks back and had a great chat with the female constable, she even wanted to hear the detector go off on laser so she did a point and listen on the side of the road.

She also took great joy in telling me they were going to try and ban them yet again and given the recent press coverage the nanna state pollies will probably do it.

I find it funny that in other countries they made them illegal but then made them legal again as they make people slow down more often then not... due to all the false calls and also made poeple pay more attention to their driving speed as they need to be within a small amount of the speed limit to be able to slow down in time...

Colin Barnett was talking about banning them recently.

Years ago I took my front number plate off to reposition it after adding an FMIC. I had it in my window on display and was driving for a brief trip. The police pulled me over because they said I was trying to evade multinovas, they saw the radar detector and said that was definitely what i was doing.

We had a chat. I wore a hat

There was a cat.

No bricks were shat.

What do you think of that?

they wont be able to enforce the ban anyway people will just get them all hardwired in like my mates one, you cannot see the detector/jammer anywhere has sensors in the rear bumer and the front bar and is probably one of the best detectors i have seen in use.

There is no way you can detect a "detector" as it is a passive device. A "jammer" on the other hand is an active device and the reason they are illegal is because you have to be licensed to TRANSMIT on the frequencies used.

I have seen the hidden install ones and they're a nice piece of kit, until detectors are banned here I won't bother.

Q: What is a radar detector?

A:Until now all radar detectors leaked a small amount of signal that police can detect by using a "Radar Detector Detector" (RDD).

They scan for common IF (intermediate frequency) emissions given off by the radar detector. Early RDD’s used VG2 Technology, which concentrated on IF emissions at 11.550 GHz, but radar detector manufactures soon moved their emissions to different frequencies to eliminate its effectiveness. Along came VG3! VG3 technology works in the same manner but scans for multiple IF emissions. RDD’s are of no concern to drivers in states where radar detectors are legal.

The VG2 Interceptor has been used in some states of Australia since 1991. It comes from Canada where a company called Techsonic Industries manufactures it. Radar detector companies struck back by moving their tuning frequency outside this scanned area, making their units "VG-2 Proof" or Stealth.

belFAQ_clip_image001.jpgA newer device named Stalcar (Spectre in the USA) seems to have given the enforcers the upper hand for the time being. It comes from a Queensland company – Stealth Micro Systems Pty Ltd. The Stalcar is now used in parts of North America where it is called the Spectre. The Australian built Spectre and Stalcar RDD were designed to sweep a larger spectrum and a higher frequency than previously possible.

The threat from the Stalcar (Spectre) RDD varies in different areas. Country roads and highways are likely to be the areas where the RDD’s are used most often. In the city and suburbs, false alarms render any RDD far less accurate.

Several Radar manufacturers moved their oscillators outside of the range detected by the Spectre and Stalcar. The RDD manufacturers therefore redesigned them to sweep even larger bands and they were detected. The Spectre / Stalcar cannot detect a radar detector that is not powered up. They also cannot detect a Radar Detector with NO EMISSIONS. The Beltronics XR and USA model Sti are the first radar detector to have no emissions and therefore be undetectable.

well there you go. there are undetectable detectors. that word has lost all meaning to me.

Q: What is a radar detector?

[Heavily abridged version]

well there you go. there are undetectable detectors. that word has lost all meaning to me.

Indeed, I wonder what range the RDD's can detect at.. didn't realise they emitted anything.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
