To all,

Remember way back when you were driving your shitbox corolla around because a. you didnt have the money to buy that series 4 rx7 or b. because there is nothing else good on offer at a reasonable price??

Those days are gone. You can now buy your r31 skyline, rx7, celica gt4 or even a ceffy if you are that way inclined for a CORRECT price (not a hugely inflated one). These cars are sometimes the only way an enthusiast starts his or her's lifelong desire for performance cars. The 15 year vehicles open the market to more people not only on price but also variety. As posted by drifft

Once RAWS settles down the only varying factor will be the cost of parts and the fee will be standard as anybody can now do any car on the list. Some people will pay up to $2,000 plus repair work to comply a 1988 RX7 and pay $4,500 + Tyres for 1997 Stagea.

With a buy price of 400,000 FOB plus a broker fee of $1,100 and compliance of $2,000 and ORC for a RX7 and a 1997 Stagea for 600,000 FOB, compliance of $4,500 plus tyres and I personaly know of workshops who will help you get a clean car for a no brokerage fee, if you use the right buyiers that send clean cars, (offical auction cost to show no kick back).

Please note - people who want to buy a stagea will buy a stagea. People who want to buy an rx7 will buy an rx7 - cost does not always come into it.

As for the brokerage system - this is my 2 cents.

I have purchased many vehicles through this system and have always had good results. I am buying cars cheaper than i ever could from the caryard - i am buying the car i want (the colour, the trim, the modifications (prior to raws)) at a price i can afford. If you have problems with a broker - go find another one, its that easy. Some people have been caught out by brokers, some by caryards, some even by our new raws people!!!! Do your &^*%# research people and dont get caught out. Ask your freinds where they bought their cars, or from which brokerage service - were they happy with the result?? the service?? the communication between themselves and the broker/caryard?? If you use your head you shouldnt have any problems.

If you want a broker to buy you good quality cars - pm me - i have no problems in recommending you to my broker.

thanks for listening

The main point of view I have is this,

The system is for the enthusiast who want a Cerfino or RX7 not a 2 ton truck.

I wish it was left alone and said no Aussie delivered car should be allowed to come in and vehicles go through a tough pre rego check.

Most RAWS dont want to do cars older than 10 years anyway due to chance of failing inspection, finance and insurance.

What about John who owns www.therotaryshop.com.au and if the rule comes through what the **** is he going to do.

I own a hotted up series 4 RX7 and I dont want to sell it, but I still want a Chaser or Stagea.

A few people who wont sell the 100 plates would rather find a clean car for a customer than not sell a plate.

The price of R33's has already droped in the arese and it is as low as $3,300 plus tyres so it will happen to all of them.

(offical auction cost to show no kick back). WTF? That is because I know of one RAWS getting kick backs from Japan when he sells their stock.

If it was left alone it wouldnt worry me in the faintest, but with people using it as a loop hole to bring shitters in they had to go wait a minute sooner or later.

The point with RX7 against Stagea was what people are being charged and I did state it is just an example.

With compliance the cost was a at worst for states like NSW.

I am only trying to explain why these decisions are made not justify them in any way, this is what lobby groups use for as examples.

I do agree though that many of the people that complaining most veremently are those who were pushed into the 15 year things because they didn't have funds, willingness, or maybe even a clean enough record to be able to become a RAWS importer. And that is largely for *their* own self interest they are pushing people to lobby the government to scrabble, and claw with their last few steps until their business is extinguished. ..

They are the ones that you need to watch as they don't give a toss about the consumer, just lining their own pockets and doing the least they have to. For them its much "easier" and more profitable to not go through a strict importation regime. I'm not sayign that any out there do it "for the good of the people", and it is all about making money after all, but as anybody knows, there are legitimate ways of making money, and quicker and easier ways of making money.

Driftt,

Well done buddy, you have had a shot at the two biggest business units that are steering the wheels of the JDM import industry into Aus (brokers/raws). Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Everyone has had a go at George dubbya Bush too - is he next your target???

Moderators please pm me if you feel that this over the line and I will post an apology.

Best regards all,

RBNT

If he's not he should be...Haha

Anyway, on a more sensible note, i aggree with the proposal of revising the SEVS import scheme. Thus reducing the number of 15 yr imports. I recently bought a '89 GTR and had always planned for my next car to buy sumthing under the SEVS scheme. Something newer.

IMO - this change = biggest cow dung u can find. :spcow:

As pointed out - that jap 15 yr old imports are far more superior than local cars of similar age in terms of safety and emission. So if one compares 10 local old bombs with 10 jap 15yr old imports - emission will from jap imports would be much lower than local old bombs. Regulations and policies in Japan is more stringent than aus.

The fear and speculatiion that jap imports will kill local car market = biggest pile of cow dung. :spcow:

I think the gov't can get away with things like this - becos it is functioning like a mafia gang... :skull:

Consumers are being bullied by all these red tapes and cow dung.

Lucky I bought my GTR at this year.

But still I should say for the japanese cars. When they came out that was brand new. You wouldn't have any problems on it. But when the age came up, it will start break every single part that u can image. Coz that's happened on my 89 GTR. Spent 1000 already for just repair it.

    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
    • Hi, Will the R33 GTR rear brake backing plates fit a GTST? I'm struggling to find GTST ones but can find new GTR ones.   Thanks.
    • I also got the same floor mats for a bit of extra bazzaz haha
    • Some more close up pics now that I’m back to working on the car, the loop pile is nice but again haven’t compared it to the other types in person, it’s hard to tell from the pics on the website. View of the hemming on the edges too, it comes in 2 pieces - front and back, honestly very happy with it for anyone on the fence.  Also attached my previous pics from further up as it didn’t let me post them directly before. (Nothing worse than photo bucket pics that aren’t hosted anymore years later)
