Yep, had the Nittos (put em on front too so rims would match)

Did 2.0 60'. they work much better with big burnouts (suits me!)

I was surprised at the lack of entries - only 25 racers (inc 10 comp cars!)

Probably more people rocked up for the B&S, but not very busy during the day.

Thought there would be heaps of bull bars & spot lights.

Oh well, everyone there had fun, it was pretty relaxed.

Nice time John! Yeah I am wondering if Nittos would help my times too. Might have to look into that for the Nats.

Now that's just rubbing it in Andy. A 1.82 on everyday road rubber (not even semi-comps!) & you still want more :P

hehe my 1.82 was on my lowly Ducaro Rev Specs (of which I've still got 2 brand newies in the garage) but my best ever ET was on 540S and it was only a 1.912 60'. I only got to do 2 proper runs with the 540S and was dramtically improving every time. I only launched at 3,200 rpm to get my 12.74 so was barely on boost at the start. I reckon if I can get some real sticky tyres (read = nittos) then I can drop it at maybe 4,000+ rpm and get a far better launch and subequent quicker time and higher terminal speed.

I hope you're coming on the cruise tomorrow Matt (whatsisname)!!!

Have fun on the cruise today everyone - nice day for it.

Spewing we cant come, we have to go to a wedding - babow

next time.

PS whatsisname - I tend to prefer long black snakey tracks down smooth bitumen.

been laying a few lately - PM for locations if you want to check em out!!!

I guess it makes sense Andy..... nice light weight, excellent power to weight ratio (as per your sig), damn good LSD & 6sp box. Bloody S15's :(

Sorry I didn't come on the cruise dude :( I'm holding off until the car is completely done (tuning & a few other little bits) I figure it's better to do the solo run in thing as I'd probably piss others off with my gay run-in driving style. Mind you after todays 260k stint in the hills I should've gone on the cruise :(

That doesn't sound like you at all John :D

no worries Matt - I can undestand your reluctance - but you knew John wasn't going to be there to chase you :D .... it's all good!

I guess the reason for my good launches are:

1 - viscous lsd

2 - lower weight (but this is hindered by excessive wheel spin)

3 - good wheel/hub/diff/axle/weight distribution engineering

4 - awesome driving skills on behalf of myself  (j/k)

Yeah definitely #4. Bah I still need to learn..... If i could even pull off a 2.1x 60ft i'd be damn happy!!

What rear tyre pressures were u using Nightcrawler? After I went home I realised i was still on 35psi....

funnily enough tyre pressure made 0% difference. I was running 34psi in my street tyres when I did my 12.97 .... than changed to the 540S at 25psi I think and only did marginally better times. But I never got to really figure out the 540s before they closed the night ;) .... we'll see soon.

Does anyone know the schedule of AIR events? Is there a street meet of any kind before the Nats? (I'd actually prefer a sunday one where they actually prepare the track so I can get some grip - my 12.74 was on a shitty Wed night with NO track prep - everyone was spinning :D ). I would really love to get some practise runs in!

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
