Lads,

"Kris" busted my balls a couple times to do a build thread, a recent "where are they now?" thread on NS plus me being abit bored = ceffy members thread.

Short history:

Car was imported and was driven reasonably hard by softy and A31cefiro, copping a few hits, upgrades and paint jobs along the way.

Sort of knew softy years ago when he lived in Melbourne, was chatting to him one day and he proposed a price and said "bring ya towcar and trailer"

Price was decent, knowing the car needed some work I pulled the cash outta the bank and organised patricks autocare to pick the ceff up from his old mans work.

Car arrived, I slapped it together (turbo plus a few other things needed putting back on) then street skidded it.

Not long after, Organised rego (cheers phil!!) got a rwc for it, did more drift.

Got into abit of carnage and got slammed by another driftcar, resulting in front drivers qaurter damage.

Drove it with the damage for abit, more skids then got defected, yay.

Took it off the road, did rb25 and matching box convo, some more skids, had a few bugs to sort out, slowly sorted them out and then leaned out no 6 cyl, killing the 25.

Off the road again for motor and maintence.

Currently how it sits:

As the Rb30 motor sits, picking up the head from the machinists tomorrow.

dsc00683q.jpg

Just after It got smashed up, destroyed a gaurd, headlight, corner light and the rad support.

Abit pig looking, but still plenty of skids were done.

Will get a few more pics when I find em.

Cheers,

Vpw's shipment of ARP fastners got delayed, so it slowed motor build.

Ended up getting some headstuds off US ebay, hoping they arrived today, but nup.

Will get some more pics of the car next time im at my mates place (car is there, motor is at the old mans haha)

Only ceff related thing I have at home is the turbo.

Pic just for kris, other turbo is a 2871r.

Power figure? Who knows, 30psi should make things interesting.

Tensioner stud can be seen above the water pump in the above motor pic,

downloaded the "rb30det how to" guide located in the rb30 section but moved the stud 2mm to the left than what it says in the guide.

Also running two rb30e tensioners, price is cheaper plus a better final belt tension can be had.

Still no headstuds..... but picked up this last night:

redtop rb20.

Disregard those yellow rocker covers, just on there to keep water out.

dsc00688p.jpg

Used this motor to grab most of the timing bits I need for my rb25/30's non-vct conversion

(Im using a R33 head, Ive done the internal vct supply mod and grubscrewed the oil gallery insted of welding it shut, just incase I want to run Vct again)

Some goodies include "RB20" embossed front timing cover :D

If anyone needs any redtop parts let me know ;)

Inlet cam is 248dur, small upgrade for silver top Rb20's. $50 and its yours :rofl2:

CST's are about 1600$ for a set, theyre becoming the new drifttek hahah

Heads on, have to get timing spot on yet and dial cams in.

Tried to mock up the inlet manifold up to the head, mounting holes dont line up :S

So its either modify again, or just buy a greddy manifold.

Still need to sort out some accessorys, coolant lines under the inlet manifold, fittings for turbo lines, and workout what to do with the vct/front oil drain line as the rb30 block has no threaded hole for it.

Most of the work is done tho,

motor is sitting on its mounts and its not going to fit under the bonnet without some mods.

First problem:

swaybar fowling the sump.

Worked out I have a s13 swaybar in it, and these touch the sump.

Scored a stock ceffy swaybar for $20 last nite, cant access the car today so I'll bolt it up tomorrow.

2)

greddy style inlet manifold hits the clutch master.

Either a R34 one will be used, or hopefully the engine mounts I make get the engine 20mm lower and under the clutch master.

Plan of attack for tomorrow arvo...

Bolt new swaybar up and inspect.

Re-measure sump to engine x-member clearance.

Whip motor out and pull the rb20 mounts off it.

bring them home and start making some mounts that will sit the motor lower in the bay.

Hopefully with lower mounts, the bracing trimmed from the bonnet and the rear of bonnet spaced up 10/15mm, the top timing cover and turbo will be under the bonnet.

Although having a hole in the bonnet for turbo and top timing cover, its not very practical for a street car, haha.

Also purchased a nistune RB20 ecu and some splitfire coilpacks for it last nite.

Pics to come.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
