As above - currently using μTorrent, but lately hasn't been downloading as fast as it used to. I usually download PPV events - is the speed dictated only by the amount of seeds/peers, or is software a factor too?

What sort of connection do you have?

In my experience the seeds and peers is obviously the biggest factor besides your connection. Also throttling back your upload speed will have a detrimental effect on your download speeds too. Here in Australia we are often limited by our upload speeds because torrents automatically give the better download speeds to those people uploading at a faster rate and those people are usually in North America or Europe. I think Utorrent is the best client, it uses the least amount of system resources and seems to give the same if not better speeds than other clients. Also Utorrent is the preffered torrent program for most of the private trackers I know of.

UTorrent IMO is the best for Windows based applications, it's light and fast. What you want simple software to be. However UTorrent has some very powerful config settings that can cause problems if you set up wrong :)

Seeds/Peers are a factor however there are also other factors to consider as follows.

UPnP

The UPnP setting (set the port to something over 50,000). Some ISP's will monitor ports below 40,000 and artificially shape your connections/requests originating.

I've found simply changing a port number to restore speed in some instances.

Global Connection Limits

Also there are some other settings that can be configured like the "number of global connections".

It is possible to MAX your router out with too many connections which will actually cause it to slow down.

I would assume (given you are asking such a question), that your router is not really high end so you want to set MAX Global connections to no more than 800-1000.

Active Torrents

Another thing to consider is the amount of active torrents you have.

There are limits within UTorrent, so have a look. If you have 100 active torrents (upload & download) then if you try for 101, it will give priority based on those which are active.

A torrent doesn't have to be seeding/downloading to be active either. If it's updating the trackers and so on i believe this to be counted as active so try bumping that number up by 50.

Or simply cleaning your current torrent listing (if you dont need them all active etc)

Checking Router Sync

Not sure if you know how to check what your Router is Sync'in @ with your ISP. But if you do - have a look and let us know.

Then also tell us your MAX download speed. You might find there is an issue with Sync speed and UTorrent is only running as fast as your connection currently allows.

Give the above a crack and report back :(

There are some other things you need to change, but for the life of me i can't remember so i'll check when i get home and update then.

lol - Just happens that cars & internets are my prime interests... Hence a forum with car stuff is gold :)

If you can check the router sync speeds - IMO that is probably the best place to start (even though its last on the list)

I dont understand how people can still use torrents, i used to use it, but only with private trackers like demonoid, supertorrents ect...

Direct downloading from rapidshare/megaupload is seriously the way to go, no wait, full speed, heaps of forums that act like catalogs to all the links, and really $10 a month (or $20 3 months, $100 lifetime) is worth it, in conjunction with IDM, downloading really doesn't get easier.( i also blow 250gb a month hording the internet)

lol at demonoid being a private tracker.

get on any half decent tracker and torrents are teh best.

OP: uTorrent for windows, there is no other option.

Lmao sorry man, I ended up hacking away at the settings being the noob I am - but it worked so I'm happy :P

:)

:laugh::laugh:

Damn you to hell boy! LOL!

PC Trouble shooting 101 - step by step.

That way you know for next time what to look for ;)

And i like to know for my own knowledge of what sometimes can go wrong (sometimes updates cause problems etc)

I'm a cheap ass Asian... that is a lot of unnecessary spending for me... :)

EDIT: also would like to point out that I used to torrent using a dial up connection (sync at 48kbps) so I'm very tolerant of waiting for it to finish.

Yeah, that's what attracted me to it in the first place because I use my netbook for downloading/surfing whilst in bed lol

giggity!

    • This. The R34 handbrake icon DOES come up when the brake fluid level is low. You might be sitting right on that threshhold. I have been down this diagnosis path and this was the solution (and it was pretty much as full as your picture is to begin with).
    • Unfortunately the cavaet to that is that while any scan tool should be able to read the code, the workshop will need a consult plug to OBD socket adapter. You don't have a location on your profile, where are you based?
    • @Haggerty this is your red flag. In MAP based ECU's the Manifold pressure X RPM calculation is how the engine knows it is actually...running/going through ANY load. You are confusing the term 'base map' with your base VE/Fuel table. When most people say 'base map' they mean the stock entire tune shipped with the ECU, hopefully aimed at a specific car/setup to use as a base for beginning to tune your specific car. Haltech has a lot of documentation (or at least they used to, I expect it to be better now). Read it voraciously.
    • I saw you mention this earlier and it raised a red flag, but I couldn't believe it was real. Yes, the vacuum signal should vary. It is the one and only load signal from the engine to the ECU, and it MUST vary. It is either not connected or is badly f**ked up in some way.
    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
