hi new to forum,

need desperate info, are POD filters illegal in western australia??

i got picked up for speeding at night through road works that hasn't been attended to for 6 odd months with half the signs and cones missing....so they pull me up and pick on my tyres, the backs are bold coz they've been on the front with chambers, i got the car 10 months ago and i got new tyres then, they tried to red sticker me for my tyres but i managed to get outta it, so anyways, i've been getting alot fixed on it, cvs, clutch, selectors, power steering, new air filter, alternator, basicly the whole front end! so i got stickered and now after i changed my degraded uni filter (i think it was custom made) to a pod filter after 10 months looking for an adaptor, i found out it's illegal (not to mention temporeraly cable tied til i can get PAID to get a bracket made) so now i've been told by a few people the POD filter is illegal and others saying not!

anyone can tell me in WESTERN AUSTRALIA whether it's legal or not??

and if not, what is that i could use to get it over (then the POD will go back on and i'll stop speeding)??

dont think red stickers exist in WA????

i know green was never to be registerd,

yellow was work order

i thought they got rid of red and green and just had yellow...

well what ever the colour is...they said they where giving me a permit to drive it home and then it has to be towed to the pits....assholes.

ok ok i'm glad they are legal!!! yeah i don't think the cabL ties will pass hahahaha that was only for the time being anyways. now my coolant is leaking!!! this shit only happens when u don't have money or u get a yellow sticker!! oh well at least it's getting fixed! one thing at a time, if i can pass it first time then there shouldn't be a problem. i'm not taking it to the one i took it to before coz the ass picked on a millimeter scratch on the tint on the back corner little window, one indicator was brighter then the other and there was dirt, not oil, DIRT on the bottom of the engine! and he passed the torn uni filter, but not my exhaust i was hoping he was deaf for that one hahahaha

thanks for the advice

dont need to spend heaps on getting a bracket made up.

Just go to bunnings and get that aluminium bracketing with fixing holes already drilled. After removing the stock airbox there is usually a spare screw hole around where ur pod sits. fix the bracket to there and to where the pod is bolted to the adaptor bracket.

-all done.

Too easy :D

mangaed to get the old bracket to fit from the uni to the POD, so that's sorted!

WTF!! are inspectors allowed to drive ur car??

mines in the pits atm and the guy took it for a drive! i thought they can inspect not test drive??

you can go with them, they're just doing their job...

inspection DOES involve taking your car for a drive and making sure it doesn't carreen to the left or have wobbly steering...

and yeah - get the bracket from bunnings... as for the "car having to be towed to the pits"

that's a load of bull. cops clearly trying to scare you. a yellow sticker is a two week or however long time frame to get the car roadworthy and legal and inspected, if the dept of transport deem more owrk order, they give you a month.

your car can be driven ANYWHERE ANYTIME HOW YOU SEE FIT during that two week "yellow sticker period"

anytime OUTSIDE the date of the yellow sticker, the car may ONLY be driven to licensing centres, or to have work carried out by a mechanic etc... for the police officer in question to tell you otherwise must either not be up to date with legalities, or just having a laugh.

sounds like you have some work to do - my advice... do as much work as you can - don't hide ANYTHING. spray the underside and engine bay with degreaser to get it looking nice n clean, take it to the inspection centre and treat the staff with respect...

chances are - they'll find something wrong on your car and you might have more work to carry out... so don't talk yourself into beleiving your car will pass inspection in case it breaks your heart,

all the best!!!

Yes they have the right to drive your car.

+1 to pods filters being legal, just need to be secured (they told me to secure at 2 points), I cut some strips out of a 1.2THK sheet of ally and drilled/bent to where needed.

When I got my 32 licensed with the 3L (had a yellow for a couple of things so had to take it over the pits anyway), I let the inspector go off with another inspector.. I've got no idea how they treated it but it wasn't broken and when he handed me the keys back he thanked me for the drive and said he loved skylines :D

ok...car didn't pass!!

i don't think this guy knows how to drive a manual coz he said my clutch isn't operating correctly, ummm it is! taking it back to the clutch place and getting them to test it then write up a letter explaining that this guy is a douch! the clutch is 2 months old! my bonnet scoop needs to be sealed to my engine bay!! HOW THE f*k DO I OPEN MY BONNET????!!! my car is too low....the lowest point on my car is 150mm! car too low or numbers on measuring tape too small?? my seal belt clip doesn't work...it's missing the black plastic shell and it does work...maybe this guy doesn't know how to use a seat belt aswell! oil leaks, power steering leaks, now there's something viable! and exhaust leak...oh well shit happens! windscreen wipers not operating correctly, well they operate just fine, didn't realise there was another use for them...

well there's the list that i got pinged for....oh and i have a spilt radiator hose that leaks when hot, hahahaha they didn't notice that!!! bahhahahah, oh my god! the last time it was over the pits i get (10 months ago) - 1 indicator brighter then the other, 1 mm of tint missing front rear left small window, dirt (not oil dirt) on the bottom of the engine! well i'm getting the message, they don't want my car on the road, well guess what, it's staying on the road! maybe i'll put a turbo in it to piss em off :D

ok, suggestions on sealing bonnet scoop to engine bay??

Iv got a feeling you have a yellow sticker that 'looks like its been put on with little care'- i.e. it isnt straight or sitting neatly in a corner of your windsheild.

THis is code from the cop who gave you the yellow sticker to the dept of transport guys at the pits that he didnt like you n wants your life to be made dificult in getting it over the pits.

certainly sounds like that is what is going on. Or youve got faults on your car that u didnt realise were faults for whatever reason...

"Good luck"

i just got off the phone to the douche...asked him what my height was...he said that it was lower then 1/3 of the manufactorers height, less then 500mm from bottom of light and lower then 100mm. gonna get some reserch on that one i think! my bonnet holes needs to be closed off and he was being "nice" coz he could have told me to replace the bonnet. the wiper blades needs to be replaced and my washers unblocked, and an plastic casing for my belt buckle, and my clutch needs to not have to be pushed to the floor to change gears....

the sticker was placed half way down the window towards the bottom and off the edge....i was wondering about the code...

all the stuff was minor things. the suspension has been on that car for a long time and has never been picked on and the bonnet scoop even longer.

ANYONE GOT A SARE BONNET??

ok, i hd to share this and get ppls opinions, i called the guy to get him to explain to me a few thing s he wrote down:

1) my car being too low - i asked what he measured my car at and he didn't tell me but rather said the car has to comply in 3 different ways - a) not less the 100mm from lowest point of car (mine is 150mm) b) no less the 500mm from bottom of head light (mines spot on) c) no less the 1/3 of the height of the original susoension - i called nissan and got them to look, the only info on my suspensio and height spec is that it should have an minimum of 142mm ground clearance....so considering it took someone from nissan to go hunting through old workshop manuals to get me that and my car is legal, where did this guy get his info from??

2) my clutch not operating correctly - he said that my clutch should not have to be pushed to the floor to change gears, that when he doesn't push it to the floor there is still movement in my gear box....i told the guy that put the clutch in and he's gonna contact this guy to get it in writing so he can show all his friends for a good laugh.

3) bonnet scoop to be sealed to engine bay - basically he wants me to cover the holes, he said he was being nice by not making me get a new bonnet as it's been "structurely compromised" - here's a question - can u get an engineering certificate to pass the holes in the bonnet for the scoop and vents to stay open??? it may have been modified when the engine was by bob campbell racing engines......

you might have trouble getting that engineered.. you could possibly add more structureal parts around the bonnet scoop and possibly get an engineers cert. but not sure if they will clear that.. why not get a sheet of ally and just tack it on under the bonnet and just remove it once you get the clear..

pretty much what i'm gonna do, i was wondering it u CAN make it legal, but it sounds like alot of hoop jumping, i'll cover the holes for the pits and then open them straight back up

i dono what to do about my height, he's dead set against what it stands at now but it legal...if i don't change it then he won't pass me in fears a pot hole will kill me!! hahaha

for the suspension either get it engineered or find a way to have it pass. I thought that it was just 100mm from ur lowest point under fully load (full tank of fuel and 3 passengers) but maybe im wrong. There is often the general rule (e.g. 100mm) but then subrules they can stick you with- 1/3 of the height

otherwise get ready to spend a little bit of money n time in getting some standard suspension and putting it in, passing the pits n then changing it all back over.

R33 suspension is pretty dead easy to swap in n out. But its still a pain in the ass...

yeah don't have the money to be buying new suspension and i can't put it in myself so would need to pay someone everytime.

he's basiclly saying that my car is less then 1/3 lower then the original specs....there are no specs available to say that it is or isn't....he can't prove that it is lower coz the info doesn't exist!

would taking it to a suspension mob to "officially" measure my carand put it in writing help??

am i allowed to take it to someone else other then this douche?? :D

dang. that sux.

A friend of mine got his R33 stickered n they were giving him shit about his suspension height just like you but after a while they chilled on it and said it would pass with that height. (about the same as yours i think).

From memory my mate also let the time lapse from it being a yellow sticker to unregistered so im not sure if that made a difference. Or they just thought they would focus on the important things- like the massive high-mount HKS turbo or or the blow off valve that at 20 odd pounds of boost sounded like darth vader in a reallly bad mood...

tho just to check, even tho ur body kit is 150mm, there isnt a part of your exhaust that is lower than that n picking on is it?

but yeah, cant really give any further advice on how to get past this height problem.

prob take it to another place...

the clearance is from my lowest point

god dammit!!!!!! now there's yet ANOTHER rule that my car "conveniently" doesn't pass for....total height of vehicle! but still no one will tell me what it is!!

i'm soooo f**ken sick of this! i actually got told by the douches offsider that they (main roads) doesn't like ANY modified suspension......well if they need a minimum from the road ow the hell are these tiny imported sports cars pasing??

well i got this re-regoed on the road 10 months ago and he NEVER picked on my suspension and this guy is a natorius wanker! maybe i should have taken it back to him! at least he'd leave my suspension alone :) :)

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
